greenfairie Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I'm having a hard time sometimes gaining weight…. It sucks because I get a hard time about being skinny and I'm just naturally skinny.. A lot of people know that but a lot of other people don't agree and think that the way I look is gross. It makes me feel really insecure. How do I get rid of this problem? 1
Emilia Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Me. Weight training has helped a lot, currently I'm trying to gain but it's hard for me to consistently eat enough. Admittedly I'm trying to gain muscle mainly and I know fat comes with it. Gaining fat would be easy I suppose, I would just stop going to the gym.
man_in_the_box Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 A lot of people know that but a lot of other people don't agree and think that the way I look is gross. What? Are they going out of their way to tell you that or something? 1
Author greenfairie Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 What? Are they going out of their way to tell you that or something? Yeah, they would come up to me and be like, "You really need to eat." in an condescending way and they'd give me a weird look. 1

melell Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 This is actually a real problem for quite a lot of people. It can cause real problems when people start wanting to have children too. Put simply, you work out your calories requirements, try to go at least 1000+ over requirements. Use high calorie shakes. There are complete food shakes high in cals that are given to anorexics to make them gain weight. If you consume more than you burn, you will gain.

Yeah, weight gain is a more overlooked problem than weight loss. Gaining weight is even harder to accomplish than losing weight is because there's so many modern supplies to support losing weight out there more than there is for weight gain. Have you noticed more of the weight ads lead to weight loss? I don't see any ads for weight gain. Malnutrition is even more dangerous than being obese is. I do know there is FOOD out there to help you gain but where's the clubs/teams to help out? Thanks. I'm just wondering if anyone has meal preparation suggestions on a budget? 1
melell Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 There are around 2 billion obese/overweight people in this world, and less than 1 billion undernourished (majority not in the western world). It is no surprise there aren't widely advertised weight gain solutions around. I don't have meal plan advice, but as I said, if you went to a doctor they would recommend high cal complete meal shakes. You will find yourself constantly eating if you try to gain with food alone.
Emilia Posted November 22, 2013 Posted November 22, 2013 It's soooo not easy gaining fat. If you chose a sedentary lifestyle and went to fast food outlets every day, you would build a nice little layer of fat around your belly. It would be extremely unattractive and it wouldn't go to the body parts you would want it to (ie to the boobs and butt) but you would gain fat. 1
pink_sugar Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 I wish I had your problem. Would you like some of my fat?
OpheliaSong Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 I had to start drinking Ensures...I know, I am only 23 and am drinking Ensures but my doctor was worried because I was underweight. I did gain some weight. I eat a banana every morning right when I get up and at night before bed too. Added red meat and pork to my diet. I honestly have no interest in eating and have an alarm telling me when it is time now. It is on my smart phone so it can go with me anywhere. I look much better and feel much better.
Esoteric Elf Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Increase your food intake, but do not just increase it per sitting. If you can (have the time, etc.), increase your number of meals per day. If you eat three meals a day, increase it to four (with this fourth starting out at maybe ~200-400 calories) and then to five. I gained roughly thirteen pounds through this method, and my usually 14.5" arms grew close to 15 inches. Whatever you do, do make it regular. Irregular meals equals an inconclusive experiment. 1
xxoo Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Is your doctor concerned with your weight? If not, it might be better to deal with your insecurities about what people think than to force your body to be different. 1
pinkie Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Yes. I too have this problem. My doctor told me to eat Big Macs and Ice Cream. (until I reached my goal weight). I have had the most difficult time gaining the weight and KEEPING it on. I too have drank Ensures, but there is a better tasting one at Target by carnation (?) I believe is the brand. I've also been told to eat peanut butter, avocados and other foods with lots of so called 'good' fats in them. There is very little information, if any about weight gaining diets. I completely understand your frustration in this area. Just do the best you can. Mashed potatoes are cheap and help a lot too as well as Macaroni and cheese and breads. Good luck to you! Edit: Another thing that seems to help is if you use sauces on your food. I was never really big with sauces, but I recognized it to be a trend with some overweight people... i.e. ketchups, mayo, ranch, sour cream, butter etc. Edited November 24, 2013 by pinkie 1
FitChick Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 (edited) Full fat dairy - yogurt, cheese, ice cream, whipped cream. Fatty meats. You have to first find out how many calories you are eating. Keep a food diary for a week. 3500 extra calories per week (500 per day) will result in weight gain of one pound. mano Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I am quite underweight too, i try to feel quite positive and not let it affect my confidence but its people always coming n telling me to eat etc n telling me that i look worse, its just daunting. I can totally relate to your situation, n its soo frustrating that yes there arnt any special diet plans or much of help regarding weight gain out there, i have been trying n takin in some extra calories, but still no difference, its soo frustrating.
Elias33 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Hypertrophy specific weight training and the increase of carbohydrates. Whole milk, peanut butter, etc. Cheese burgers may not be the desired way as you become unhealthy quite fast. Increasing your meals may also increase your metabolism. Plenty of protein and fats to support a healthy weight gain. Plenty of sleep and water (often overlooked).
John316C Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 if your friends are saying your gross get away from them go to the gym if ur gifted genetically in muscle you will gain weight. workout the abs and legs. chestback and arms will make u look manly though if your naturally skinny u cant do anything till your body changes gears during times of pubescent growth or late 20s etc etc eating fat filled foods (good fats) will help gain weight temporarily depends on your metabolism. nothing else can b done
thefooloftheyear Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Its really impractical for most to gain lean muscle without some fat as well..The way to put on lean muscle is usually an addition by subtraction process.. Eat nutrient dense foods...Meats, whole milk, essential fats, protien drinks. Complex carbs are also very essential for someone looking to put on size.. At the end of the day, though, your genetics will have the strongest effect on this..Not everyone gains solid muscle in large quantities,..Some do and some dont. But everyone can improve their bodies.... It makes little point just to put on a bunch of fat eating jelly donuts all day.. Good luck TFY

A lot of people know that but a lot of other people don't agree and think that the way I look is gross. It makes me feel really insecure. How do I get rid of this problem? damn you for having difficulty putting on weight! Some of us would LOVE to have this 'problem'. ok I'm done teasing you. I just met this guy who is about 5'3 (my height) and skinny. definitely skinnier than me. He told me the day he understood that the kind of person who would not want to date him because he is short and skinny is not the kind of person he wants to be with anyways is the day most of his dating problems went away. Hope this helps...
