Mr Weir Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Unofficial poll here I've been going steady for 8 months with a wonderful women and now we're talking babies, moving in and getting engaged. Never done any of these things before so I'm wondering what is the average time for these "events" to happen? At a guess, any less than 3 months is way too soon and more than 2 years is way too long. But you tell me.................!
HokeyReligions Posted December 21, 2004 Posted December 21, 2004 Honestly, Wait at least three years after you have lived together before discussing having babies! Get to know each other a good long while before adding new life to the mix. It takes time to get into routines and learn about yourselves and each other. Some people feel ready to live together or get married in a matter of months. My rule of thumb was always at least one year -- one rotation through all the holidays and observing how they and their families celebrate and what traditions they have. Observe the family the rest of the time too - how are communications with the parents or siblings, etc. Take it slow and enjoy the relationship. Rushing things will not serve you well. Patience and observance and growing in love together is better. My husband and I were together for a couple of years before we got married and looking back I think we rushed things a bit too. My late father in law dated his second wife for over 14 years before they got married and moved in together!
