Of course! Everything on a resume is "optional"!!!

Heck, I know people that LIE all over their resume! I guess that's optional too!

It's volunteer work. It doesn't show up on your employment record, so how is it lying? I have left a lot of jobs off my resume and that is because it doesn't pertain to the field of work I am looking for. A resume is for selling yourself. You put your most relevant work, experience and education. An employment application on the other hand will require you to list all jobs and these are the jobs they will likely verify if they do employment verification. Since you are not paid, this will not show up on any records pertaining to employment. I am volunteering for a shelter, but it does not pertain at all to my field of work, so I do not need to list it anywhere I do not want to.
