I never understood why people posted stuff like this online, I get it now - I just want to tell everyone I meet, I wanna shout it from the rooftop, I want the world to know that I'm a dad to:

Mr. Fraser Atlas Jett-Shepherd &

Mr. Ronnie Andrew Jett-Shepherd

Both of whom I'm sure will have plenty of guy fawkes birthday parties given the date!!

It's all so crazy, I've always wanted kids, but I guess I always assumed you grew to love them like you do everyone else, but no like they just put them in my arms and I just loved them, unconditionally, from that moment - it doesn't even make sense but it's true!!

11.30pm: I go to bed, childless

2am: My girlfriend wakes me up, cool as steel, "Alfie call my watershave broken".

3am: My brother drives us down the wrong side of the road so he can drop us off right outside the emergency doors.

3.15am: We wait and wait and wait some more - No TV show ever prepared me properly for the actual time in-between waters breaking and childbirth.

6am: I had a really really good bacon sandwich :D

8.28am: Fraser Atlas came into the world :D

8.31am: His little brother Ronnie Andrew joined him. :D

And I'm not nearly good enough with words to explain how that felt and still feels!! :D :D :D

Their tiny though - premature! It sucks that I can't do owt for them, they have to be in these like clear tanks where all you've got is this little whole to put yor hand through. I know they'll be okay - their Alex's kids - their fighters! I just wish I could do more, saying that while sitting here i find myself considering things that I could do including but not limited to, what animals I could kill or scare away with my body and potentially a knife, so I made a list…

Animals I think I could take out in the name of saving Ronnie & Fraser:

- mad axe man (easily)

- fox (easily)

- stag (easily)

- large monkey (easily)

- non-fighting dogs (easily)

- pack of fighting dogs (might struggle)

- cheetah (will definitely struggle and could end up with a lethal injury, but ultimately I predict success)

After cheetah, I envision myself, and possibly Ron & Frayz as well, being eaten by:

- bear (fur is too thick, although they can be bluffed away in certain circumstances)

- lion (let's face it - I'm dinner)

- tiger (might also eat my girlfriend and neighbours out of spite, just because it could)

- great white shark (no soul, eating machine, skin and fat layer too thick)

But, tbh, at the end of the day whether its slaying great white sharks or putting batteries in their PS12 controllers, I just want so badly for them to be proud of me. :o:)

This cracked me up, mostly because I completely understand it. You'll never look at life the same way again.

Haha its crazy!!

People talk sometimes about like the time it takes to bond with your baby etc but like their my sons, though biologically not so much, but the moment they put them in my arms, from that moment I'd of laid down my life in a heartbeat for those little guys! - its a special thing!! :D

How blessed a moment. Cherish it. They will open your eyes and heart in more ways as time goes by. Just remember this special time. May health, family memories and security flourish throughout the tender years.

- fox (easily)

But when you take out the fox... what does the fox say?

Hahah

Congratulations on your new boys! Were you put on the birth certificate as the father?

The NICU is an emotional rolller coaster, but just remember that YOU are the parents, you have more say over what's going on than you feel, and it will be over soon. If you have NICU questions, feel free to PM me.

How early were they?

Yeah we did... never regret anything that maes you happy, right? There's not many neutrals on our Alex, she's marmite but I love her, so much, and those little lads they make Me happier than anything in my life so...I think it's the right thing.

I always listen to my grandad see and he always says that you shouldn't think to hard on what's the right thing, you've got a void heart so trust it and you won't go far wrong.

And this feels right! :)

Thank you! It is hard cause like I don't understand all the science behind everything they do so you have to just trust them don't you, trust the doctors know what they're doing!

It's harder for Alex I think thou, it's hard for her to leave them, I guess like to get all them mothery type feelings and then have to leave them cant be easy..

But it is what it is - they are in the best place and there'll be keeping us awake alright soon enough! :)

How early were they?

5 weeks - which is early but not crazy early for twins. Frayz was born 5lb 5, they don't reckon he'll be in long at all probably only a week. Ronnie was only 4lb 7 and he has to have one of them ventilators to help him breath cause he ain't strong enough yet..so they won't give us a time estimate yet but he'll get there!

I just think its a shame they have to be split up - there not identical but still, to spend all that time with your brother and then no see him anymore - that mus suck

Congrats man.

You lucked out with two boys.

My boy is the best in the world.

I love girls but I wouldn't want one as a daughter - the stories I've heard from friends and relations just make my toes curl.

Have fun man!

Great news, Shepp! Many congrats to you and your girlfriend!

Art's right; your life will never be the same, but you won't want to trade anything for it. Except around 4:00 a.m.

It's harder to hear your mom's heartbeat, then be surrounded by all the crazy NICU noises, I'm sure. Just make sure you guys do the kangaroo care (skin-to-skin cuddling) with them. :)

Hahah thanks buddy! yeah teenage girls...I work with a guy who has 5 teenage girls - imagine that! Reckon I'd be forever scaring away suitors, haha!

Yeah bring it on!! :D maybe except for 4:00am like you say - it hasn't gone unnoticed that my girlfriend has already twice refered to my weekly night shifts at the station as "your nights off":laugh:

Yeah I love that! Normally I'm the kind of guy who can't sit still for 5mins but I can do that for over two hours it feels like 30 seconds!!

The first time we got to hold Fraser the nurse goes to me 'he's strong enough now if you want to hold him' so I'm like 'yeah' and then she were like 'okay well take your shirt off' and I'm sitting there thinking like, shes a bit forward - what is this like a weird kind of blackmail when my girlfriends only down the hall getting coffee! ....then obviously she explained to me about kangaroo care and all the health benefits.....clearly I'm not quite as irresistible as I think I am!! :o:laugh:

They don't let us do it with Ronnie though, not till his breathings more stable, which makes me feel super bad for him. :(

I can just put my hand through the porthole thing and then he'll like hold onto my thumb - veryy cute!! :)
