Arrest records and court records are freely available and in many jurisdictions they are also Google-able. It leaves me feeling ambivalent, for sure, but yeah... you can pretty much find out whatever you want to know about someone with a modicum of intuition and good search engine skills.

But that said, I still find no compelling reason to date a man who wouldn't tell me his last name. I hear t3930's concerns, but I can recall the last name of every dude I went out with OLD... it's not so much whether the name is disclosed or not... it's rather that a guy who made it an issue would stick out in my mind.

Usually, yeah. Once I met then in person. I also told them my name.

The most loving, honest, trustworthy, and emotionally healthy man I ever dated was a recovered alcoholic/heroin addict. He had been recovered for 2 years when I met him. He was up front about it, but not on the first date. People do sober up and change for the better.

Your concern is understandable, but don't call it off just yet if the vibes you got from her were good. Just be honest about how you came across the information and ask her about it. You should be able to get a better understanding from her response.
