Tyler Durden Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hey everyone. Glad to have found a Long Distance section on the internet to post this in. My girlfriend and I have been together for 6 months exclusively now. She lives 90 minutes away, but we have been very lucky to have seen eachother every weekend. Either she comes here, or I go there. Except for this last month. We weren't able to spend any time for a month because of things coming up and getting in the way. I couldn't go there, because of some family stuff that came up, and after it was settled, I had a job interview I had to stay for, and then there were things on her end so we didn't get to see eachother. After our plans had to be cancelled a few times, she said "Why don't you surprise me and just show up here whenever you can? You know how to get here now, and I gave you your own set of keys." So I said maybe I would. Afterall, this is something she's suggested me to quite a few times in the last few months, but I never did. Truthfully, it's not my style to show up unannounced. I've never even asked "Can I come over?" it'd make me feel very intrusive. But she kept on insisting I am always welcome and I don't need to ask or any of that sort of thing. Fine. Fast forward to this weekend, and on a whim one afternoon, I decided to take her suggestion and go there, since it had been so long and I didn't really have anything going on. While texting me, she still had no idea I was making my way there. So when I got about 5 minutes from her place, I called and asked what she was up to and if she was home. She said yeah and asked why, so I told her "I'm around the corner, I'll be there in less than 5 minutes" There was a pause, and then she goes "Ugh, really? you should have told me you were coming.......Sigh, alright...I'll go unlock the door then." That wasn't the reaction I was expecting honestly, since it was HER idea that I did such a thing afterall. Needless to say, I felt pretty stupid. Once I got there, I could tell she was annoyed but she didn't want me to see just HOW annoyed she was. So when we finally got talking, she said she doesn't like surprises, and basically implied that she doesn't want me to do it again. I explained that this was her idea, not mine. She responded by saying "yeah but I still thought you'd at least tell me." (Doesn't that ruin the element of surprise?)
Solcita2 Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I think I'm confused just as you are... I swear I thought she loved surprises and wanted you to surprise her... I don't understand how she couldn't be happier to finally see you after a while... The only thing I can imagine is maybe she had plans... but yet, IT IS WEIRD... If my bf came over by surprised I would just drop any plans I had (but the situation is very differen't, we're a world apart, so it would mean something completely diff too...)
bluechocolate Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I would have turned around & gone home. Seriously. 2
Criticality Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Hmmm.... She sounds more like a weekend girlfriend of sorts, who couldn't be bothered the rest of the week. Are you sure you didn't misread her surprise as disappointment? Cause I really can't imagine why you wouldn't be ecstatic to see you boy/girlfriend as a surprise.

That's what I mean, especially after so long. I was this close to turning back and making my way home after that initial conversation on the phone.
TMichaels Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 So fine, she was pissy when you got there. How did she act the rest of the time you spent together? Have you talked to her since? Best, TMichaels
