irc333 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I was wondering, I saw this profile of a woman that emphasized she works in retail so that would mean weekend hours and long hours, which doesn't afford her the ability to meet those IRL... and thus her reason for being on a dating site. She is a retail manager. For those working M to F , 9 to 5 jobs...have you found it difficult to date people who work in retail?
Chocolat Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 For those working M to F , 9 to 5 jobs...have you found it difficult to date people who work in retail? I haven't done it, but I imagine it could be difficult, especially at the holidays. She is likely to work nights and weekends, which is when the typical 9-5'er is free. If you're interested, though, why not contact her and find out what her schedule is like?
Vogeltron Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 It depends on age. A woman working in retail early to mid 20's is much different than late to 30's. Beyond that another personality. Not trying to say anyone is bad for working any particular job. But often times jobs=lifestyle. If you are younger it is a holdover until school is finished etc. Not always the case. But tradition thought. I always like to give everyone a chance, but just some scenario's to consider.
LuvsTrucks2 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I used to work retail many years ago. If she is interested, she will find the time to meet that is convenient for you both.
ltjg45 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Well, I work as an overnight cashier so I typically have it harder than the 9-5 people since I'm almost never available from 10 PM to 7 AM EST and dates typically lasts as late as 11 PM or even midnight, which makes it difficult to date. Also, if I were to date an employee who is working daytime at my workplace, I also have to consider her constantly changing schedule since it is never set outside of a select number of employees.
KathyM Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 My son works in retail while he's going to school. He does work odd hours, and usually on the weekends, but he also has some nights and weekend hours off. You just choose a time to date when both are free. Not really a big issue. You just have to be more flexible in the hours and days you date the person.
tlegend Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Please keep in mind, everyone, that working in retail and managing a retail store are 2 very different things. Being a manager at a retail store, you are likely to be salaried with set hours. Working at a retail store, you are likely hourly with a 2 week rotating schedule. I think she's giving you some bs as to why she's on a dating site. Also, in her defense, I don't think anyone should have to explain why they are on a dating site....I think the name "dating site" is relevant enough. Take what she said with a grain of salt, but don't pass up the opportunity to possibly date someone fantastic! 1
deathandtaxes Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Tlegend, you are funny. I think the two reasons to be on a dating site are to either hook up or potentially find somebody for something serious. OP - if she's interested, she will make time. I have a date coming up with a police officer lady whose 'weekend' is Wednesday and Thursday. This could make it a bit awkward at first for meeting up. But I'm willing to swing it. Never dated a cop, either. That's my major concern over her availability. As for the lady working retail - at least she's got a job!
