i was tlaking with my guy and he was saying how it is painful for some guys to go out and buy a ring for the girl, because its expensive. A couple thousand dollars he just worked for is being put into something for her finger, thats it. So whats your take? I thought guys should love spending that on a girl,,,cause shes so special to him.

It depends on how much extra cash flow he's got, and how much importance his girl puts on the ring, and the extent to which he is obligated to get one.

 

I've known women to be so fixated on the damned ring and demanding about getting one, that they totally forget the man giving it to them. What man wants to fork out a couple of thousand dollars for something that his woman puts more symbolic importance on than him?

 

On the other hand, if he's financially comfortable and his lady will be knocked off her feet with surprise by it - then I would think he'd be a little more excited about getting it. He'd be getting it because he wants to, not because he *has* to.

 

Its all about whether or not the ring is obligatory.

 

No one wants to do something when they feel like they have to. Particularly when its gonna cost you a month or two of your salary.

you take out of your bank account and spend it on something he wants. LIke a big screen TV.

 

 

Honestly, the whole engagement ring issue kind of bugs me. I'm a woman and I've never wanted a ring. I'd much rather spend a few grand on a nice trip to Europe that we can BOTH enjoy.

Dunno, would most women ENJOY spending $3,500 on electronics for their man? Probably not cause it is a waste of money.

 

SOon as that engagement ring walks out the store it is worth exactly about 33% of what you paid for it just 3 minutes ago.

 

Also, what if she says NO. Or what if she says YES and then the engagement gets broken then this dude is stuck with some worthless piece of carbon.

Why on earth does anyone need a ring worth 'thousands' anyway? The bigger the ring is, the less convenient it is to wear. There are perfectly nice rings to be found which cost $1000 or less.

LOL Thank god I don't have this problem..lol I am allergic to every single type of jewlery man has made so my guy is lucky he wont have to buy me a ring and we can save that money for a trip or something.

 

As for my wedding ring when I get married I guess I'll have to tie a string around my ring finger or something...lol ;)

 

But I agree that if the guy loves the girl and wants to get it for her and knows that her face will light up when he does get it for her then he should be excited to get it for her and not care how much it costs.

 

But if shes demanding and wants it this way and why hasn't he gotten it yet, then I would understand them not wanting to waste their money and buying it for them.

About 6 yrs ago my buddy got engaged. Now, his g/f wanted a $6,000 engagement ring. Problem was he only makes half what she does in salary.

 

So SHE dragged HIM out to the store, made him pay 1/3 of cost and she paid 2/3 of cost. All of this so that SHE could brag and impress her friends and show it off.

 

Can you believe that B.S.??? And funny thing is that she is the fat, ugly, bossy, in-yer-face type of woman.

Thats probably why!! She's probably really insecure inside and wanted to have something to show to everyone at work and just to show off period. She wnated everyone to know that she had someone and that he got her a nice ring.

 

Thats so shallow. I feel really bad for your buddy. He should've told her you should be happy with an onion ring biotch! lol ;)

I would've spent thousands of dollars on the one I bought. If that was what she wanted. It didn't matter to me, I love her and that's what is important. How can you put a monitary value on something like that. My love for my fiancee is PRICELESS! :love: I could never put a $ amount on what we have!

The idea that someone is SUPPOSED to buy you expensive stuff is really lame. A gift should come from the heart and how is it supposed to be from the heart when someone drags you to the store and forces you to buy something you can ill afford?

 

That story about the heavyset, insecure woman really nails it. Some people are so awful about "I want this kind of ring and you'd better get it for me..." I'm just blown away that they actually get someone to marry them (I guess the significant other doesn't think he can do better?)

Sometimes the girl is so picky and they forget about the real meaning of the ring that it makes it hard for the guys to want to buy it. It's about the meaning not the price.

 

The meaning of the ring is that your love is like it - never ending, not that it costs like a whole grip of g's.

 

When I got married I kept my mom's engagement ring and he bought me a $50 dollar band, but I was happy 'cause I was his wife and I wore those rings proudly. We could not afford more 'cause we were young but it was enough for me.

Well her hubby is a good friend of mine for last 20 yrs. He is a "Nice Guy". Never gets mad, takes all the shyt she dishes out, has low self esteem about himself.

 

This guy is good looking, funny, good body (6' 2"), college educated and loves to be bossed around by ugly fat women. I mean, I have told him many times that he can be with almost any woman he wants but he just does not believe in himself or have confidence.

Just kidding. Sort of. I mean, isn't that the spirit of giving? Isn't that the whole point? If there was something my boyfriend wanted, and it was $5000 or whatever, and it would make his face light up and he would wear the damn thing for the rest of his life, you bet your ass I'd plop the money down.

 

I don't want a rock though- do not want to get remarried! But I think its sweet to give your mate something for their sheer enjoyment.

I'm not a cheapskate. I've bought many expensive items for my boyfriend because I wanted to surprise and delight him. He's worth every cent. The DIFFERENCE is....he doesn't demand it, nor does he feel like he has a RIGHT to it. He enjoys me for myself and I've never doubted that for a second.

 

If he dragged me to a store and told me, "Now this is what I want and I'm having it by hook or by crook..." and delivered some kind of ultimatum,

 

 

again, I'd tell him to go suck an egg.
