wing81 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 Does anyone have suggestions on how to avoid lonely holidays? I'm at school far from home and with the holidays coming everyone will be heading back to their homes. I have only been here for one semester so far so I haven't made many extremely close friends but at the same time I have lost some contact with my friends at home. My family is great but i'm sure like most people you can only spend so much time with them. If anybody has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
rowi1116 Posted November 29, 2004 Posted November 29, 2004 hi. will you be staying at your school for the holiday break? if so, try to find out who the international students are-many of them do not go home for the holiday break (it depends on how far away they live, and cost to fly home)- they often hold special events and dinners for students staying on campus. or invite someone who is staying for movie night... I know if it is your first year in college hanging out with the RA (residence assistant ) may not sound too cool, but you might find they are staying on campus too. if you are going home for the holiday and dont know what to do...go for contacting old friends, let them know your schedule is free, try to set up a date with them. break up activities with siblings, go out with them individually, that way it doesnt feel like you are spending time with the same family members. volunteer...at a soup kitchen....it makes the holidays and life come into focus... if you get home early, look for a holiday job...extra cash before you go back to school.... its okay to do a movie mid day on your own...and saves some extra cash quick....take up knitting! you will have a scarf by new years! its easy, (best how to knit book: Stich & bitch.... Yeah thats the title) pick up a good book. take up a lesson- karate, kick boxing.... start your new years resolution early! good luck!
