AnyaNova Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I think maybe it might be good, so much of this part of the forum has to be for the negative, the sad, the loss, etc.. But maybe, if we all collate lists of even just small, tiny little things that make us happy, that we can do, and maybe when we've worn out all of our own, seeing someone else's can spark an idea that can help us when we need a boost. And I think it would also be good if we primarily listed things that you can do alone, since that is when most of us tend to get into trouble in dealing with everything, So a few things that make me happy. --The sound of the dishwasher running, because it means order is being restored and things are being cleaned and made new. --bubble baths. --tea --walks outside when weather permits --sitting on my porchswing --petting my kitty --just basking in my neat and organized apartment (when it is). --sunlight --work that I want to do --knitting --playing my keyboard --playing my guitar --writing poetry --composing music (not that I'm very good at this) --occasionally, when I can afford it, ordering self-pampering things on the interwebs. --getting dressed up and going out to someplace that he would never go, by myself. -planning and trying on an outfit for the next time I do the above. --playing with make-up looks --reading!! (If I am not in too much pain to be able to concentrate on it) --listening to peppy songs such as Tubthumping. What about you guys? What kinds of things do you do to keep yourself happy, or self-soothe etc.? 4

Tayla Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 ** an evening walk...with a summer rains....No umbrella...just the warm water dribbling along the face... ** A cake being baked ...the aroma ** Listening to my grandson laugh and giggle over a silly joke ** Completing a house project...and realizing it turned out entirely different then the directions, yet it still looks appealing! ** Helping a Co worker who has a project and knowing that collectively we completed it! ** Creating a baked pie from scratch and having it be raved about at a dinner party! ** Walking up towards my home at the end of a long day and seeing my two pups gleefully bark at my arrival. ** The silent look of gratitude amongst friends when words just wont do. ** A sunset along a mountain side in Bar Harbor...its a moment to be captured! ** When a community comes together to help others...Brings faith back to humanity 3
Leegh Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Sometimes just getting in my bed with coffee or tea and watching an old movie or reading a magazine in bed. In addition, I feel most at peace in the early morning, and that is when I am at my happiest, and have the most energy. Pets are a great joy to me, but I don't have any now, but am looking forward to getting a cat perhaps in a year or two. 2

Shepp Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Hmm little things that make me happy: My dogs face when I get homeGoing for a jog really early in the morning when the suns rising and the birds are singing really loudNailing a really gnarly downhill section on my bike without falling off on like the 10th attemptFoodPlaying tin whistleThe smell of some books - do you know the ones that just smell awsome?Piling the leaves up in the autumn and watching my dog go nursing themChristmas trees/decorationsTaking the boat out with the brotherDriving on an open road and feeling like I'm Lewis HamiltonWaking up on my day offWinning betsWhen people laugh at my jokesWhen someone uses my name in conversationplaying football in the rain - weird one but I like it, and I like the stinging in your eyes and salty taste in your mouth when like rain mixes with mud & sweat.Making someone laugh who's been cryingWhen I get in the car and a song I loves just starting on the radioFireworks & bonfires - I should probably hate them as a firefighter but nopeWhen someone's face lights up when they see youThe cracking sound my fire makes on a rainy dayThe chocolate bit at the bottom of the ice cream 1

KathyM Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) To self soothe, things I like to do by myself are: Play the piano. Go shopping. Go for a walk. Drive somewhere interesting. Read something interesting. Make something, either gourme foods or some type of craft project. Currently working on making a family cookbook to share with extended family members that contains favorite recipes from all the extended family members. Pray. Make plans. Redecorate the house, or rearrange furniture. Go to buy something nice for the house. Indulge in something tasty. Edited September 24, 2013 by KathyM 2

ellowmay Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Memories of my dad...like the time he taught me how to fish in the back yard with a little kid rod and a plastic fish and a brilliant lightning storm overhead... Or happy memories with josh, even in spite of everything I still love the good memories, the beautiful things that made all our suffering worthwhile. 1
