Lokie Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 We've been emailing a short while getting to know more about one another to determine if we should meet. I received this e-mail, and I got a little thrown. I need to know how others would feel about receiving an email like this? Your feedback is most appreciated! Email from OLD guy: Hope you had an awesome night and great plans for today? Thanks for sharing more about you and your background. I really appreciate this consistent communication and I will say it is a sign of will, and I tell you where there is a will there is success ahead. I believe we both know that Love is not a destination but a journey and this is a journey that takes two to walk. I mean two souls who understand ahead that they aren't in for a kid walk, and what they have ahead is the most important mission in life. A place meant for true people, it is a place called joy and happiness. Really I just see in your face that I can live with this woman, not the beauty part alone, but the depth of your soul. As I could remember, as a kid I was a very cute one lol. One whom many bullies would target, but only to realize there is a tough side to me. I could make a sober person dance. I could affect one with my smile. I grew up having older friends. Many would confide in me. To tell you, I am a type that doesn't judge, no matter how dirty you may be, just come clean to me, and I will give you support. There is no Mr. Right until we make him right. A relationship is never about how much at the beginning but how much we could make it grows into. My old friend and pastor would tell me, if you aren't ready to feel or look stupid, then don't fall in love lol. But sincerely that is the bitter truth. When I divorced my ex-wife, he told me that the fact that something good end doesn't mean something better can't start. Can you prove that right? I have come to realize that let a man write a better book, let him preach a better sermon, let him sing the best of songs, let him gain wealth beyond dreams, he is reduced to nothing except he has a woman to call, my wife, my best friend and co-pilot. My usual saying and I am known for it, is that, Life is simple, and for those who take it simple. I don't like to complicate things; there is joy in every situation if you know the right angle to look it from. My mother is old now and at almost 80 she can't wait to have a proper family, and I can't wait to have a happy home too. I want to spend the rest of my life having fun. I have a house in Paris where I found my ex-wife and got married, I have one in South Chelsea London and the one I live in right now, while I have no home. Would you stand by me to build a home? Would you smile at me when I look tense? I don't need a super model; I rather need a very good friend who knows when I am tensed just by looking into my eyes and a super woman. The whole world may be mad at me, but if you are smiling at me, I would care less. Who says we can't design our own paradise together? It is workable, just walk by my side. I long to read from you later in the day, for now I must take care of some work so I will check back on you later.
KAOJ Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 WOW! That is a bit much coming from someone you haven't met. If he is already asking you to stand by him while he builds a home and has already suggested he could "live his life with you" be careful. 2
GirlovesArt Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 He sounds so creepy.. Please be wary 4
ChessPieceFace Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Safest answer is that you are the only person qualified to determine how that text should make YOU feel. My reaction is that he's weird and perhaps not fully grounded in reality, and seemingly not very good at knowing what to say to a woman (and also bad at spelling.) But then, I find almost all humans to be lacking in proper sense. I don't see any enormous deal-breakers there.
Purepony Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Lol! Hes on his way to success. Send him the link to love shack forums haha
scorpiogirl Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Have you spoken on the phone? does he say hes in your city? The last sentence of the email... Nigerian people say they hope "read" from you, not "hear" from you. This is always a line in a scam email. And in London I've worked with some Nigerian ladies they always say they're happy to read from me. I've never met anyone else who types that in an email. Sorry if I'm way off base here. But that's what stood out to me.
soccerrprp Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Too mushy, too soon, too suspicious. I am all about being poetic and romantic, but this guy seems to be over-inflating his status to impress. Don't get involved is my instinctive response. Have him send you pics of his houses and his name with pics of him standing by these houses. 2
Mascara Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I live in London. The only people who say "south chelsea" are people who are trying to sound impressive. He means the cheap area a few miles from chelsea. I honestly never hear anyone say it. It all sounds a bit scammer grammar to me. 7
JourneyLady Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 It reads like a bunch of sayings and quotes taken from elsewhere.I'm not picking up any "personality" in it and so I think it's probably a scam or catfish. I've had similar (but supposedly local) and the guy always had a "reason" why he could not show up as promised. I'd skip it.
JourneyLady Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 As a matter of fact, I just googled this line in quotes "as a kid I was a very cute one" and what came up was a bunch of links to scammers. Run! http://www.youreittoday.com/scammer.php?scammerid=558998 5
Lansing Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Pig Busters on You're IT! - The New Generation in Social Networking Good fine. My gut reaction was scam or loser but this link just confirms it.. Shocked how some people do fall for this kind of stuff.

mercuryshadow Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 I only read a couple of paragraphs and this already started to wreak of scam to me. Scary. I'd report the profile. 1
MidwestUSA Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Scam, report it. A friend of mine fell for this and nearly ended up sending money overseas.
mtber75 Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 This guys sounds uber desperate! You don't pour your heart out after a few corresponds if you not desperate and lonely! So be cautious of this guy and ask to verify himself by showing his houses and pictures of himself!

Author Lokie Posted September 19, 2013 Author Posted September 19, 2013 Holy Crap!! Oh, I love you my Love Shack family! Thank you. Yeah, didn't sit well with me at all. You guys will get a kick out of what I responded to him several days ago, then surprisingly didn't hear back. Poor kid doesn't realize how I would NEVER give anyone money, and that I've done a lot of work to be cautious of flowery writing like this. Unfortunately, he did get me out of emailing through match. But my email addy doesn't give much away. I will report him. My response: I appreciate the beauty and imagery in your writing about romance, partnership and love. I feel I am a bit more pragmatic about it all, and this awareness has had me pause a bit before responding to your email. My pausing has the most to do with my historically getting overly excited and idealistic about new love without paying attention to possible future issues and then getting terribly hurt when the fantasy didn't match the reality. Can you meet me in the middle? Somewhere between poetry and practicality? I hope so, because I'd like to know you better. THEN... **crickets** Guess they don't have a reply to an email like that. :-) 4
SarcasticAbby Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 This sounds sketchy. Almost like if its too good to be true... It probably is. Reading that for the first time I would guess he's sent that exact letter to more women than just you. Just my two cents...
Art_Critic Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Email from OLD guy: Hope you had an awesome night and great plans for today? Thanks for sharing more about you and your background. I really appreciate this consistent communication and < SNIP> ..... so totally scripted....
waiting4u Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 LOL. Just saw a Dr. Phil show the other day and he did another 'catfish' show. I'm absolutely amazed at how gullible and stupid lonely women can really be. One woman sent her 'fiancee' who was supposedly in the service and 'stuck' in Afganistan, $65,000 over the course of a year to 'get him out.' This pitiful woman hadn't even MET the guy and had never ONCE spoken with him on the phone. Their "romanced" had blossomed solely over email and chat boxes. A private eye traced this creep's emails and here's a big surprise - they were coming from a 'sweat shop' down in Ghana (that's basically a room with a bunch of scammers sitting behind computer screens, sweet talking or emailing gullible women). (googles "catfish Dr. Phil") This should be entertaining.
FitChick Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Even before I read that he was a scammer, my gut reaction to his claim of a house in Paris and one in London but he had 'no home' was that at some point he'd ask for money. Tell him you've always wanted to visit Nigeria and could he send you money for a plane ticket because you can't wait to meet him.
aussietigerwolf Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 reads sooo much like a scammer lol
devilish innocent Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Strike 1- The entire tone of the letter sounds far too flowery. Either he's fake, or he's trying way too hard. Strike 2-He's decided he already knows your soul just from your pictures?! Strike 3-He's asking you to build a home before you've been on the first date. I highly doubt that he's real, and if he is then he's very naive and immature. There's no way I would date him.
