Hi people.

I met this guy a couple months ago and we've been chatting on and off. Towards the beginning, I was pretty interested so I invited him to come visit me a couple times (we live in different states). He always said he would but ended up not so I just stopped talking to him. Then, a couple months after, he randomly messaged me and asked me if I was in town. It was really sudden so I didn't give him a direct answer. THEN, just recently, he had moved to where I was so he messaged me again asking me out. I told him I was living in New York for the summer (which was true) so he said he would take me out after I got home. We conversed for a couple more days but the conversation kind of just ended and we never went out. Should I initiate the next move? All my friends are always telling me that since I'm a woman, I should never make the first move, but I think that's pretty stupid. Anyway, It's his birthday soon and I want to message him, but I'm not sure if I should since it seems he lost interest...or is it cause it seemed like I lost interest...

First off, putting rules on your gender (who can initiate and such) is just plain silly.

I would suggest you try to give him a buzz. He may have lost interest but it may just be that things were too complicated travel-wise before.

You're like two ships passing in the night. If I were in his shoes it would be really iffy whether I would try again. If you like him you should reach out, otherwise forget it.

If you don't want to make a 1st move then just wait...and let a bolder girl get him.

The women making the first move stuff is just an excuse for the entire gender to be cowardly and a little lazy.

Confident , bold, assertive people of both genders go after what they want, and they get it .

Thanks for the advice :) I don't usually sit around and wait for a guy because I like making the first move but a lot of people say that women shouldn't so that for fear that we might scare the guy away...
