My question is could I send a gift to the kids on their birthday coming up? She has twins that are turning 9 in two weeks. Is that breaking contact if I did so? And is this acceptable? I am not over her but I did enjoy buying gifts for the kids...seeing it was a 5 year relationship...So thoughts please

Absolutely not. Not only will it come off as a desperate attempt at contact, but it will confuse the hell out of the kids and cause drama.

Your relationship is over with her. Those are her kids and that means you have to let them go as well. It will only confuse these children and put them in the middle of this post breakup. Let her go and let them go. Everyone needs to move on from here forward.
