finalf72 Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 my facial skin is so oily! does any one have any tips they can give me on keeping the skin not so oily?
UCFKevin Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 What's your ethnicity? I'm plagued with this. I'm Spanish so I get oily skin. I don't overwash because that'll dry the hell out of my face but I use Neutrogena acne foam face wash (water based) and when I don't want to dry out my face from too much washing, I just use a towel or a napkin to get the oil off my face. Works pretty well, my skin's in great shape, now that I think about it. Yay Neutrogena!
Merin Posted November 20, 2004 Posted November 20, 2004 Noxzema Microbead cleanser and toner is awesome too;) You can also buy oil blotting papers at most cosmetic counters and beauty supply stores, and possibly get a loose or pressed powder to help absorb excess oil through out the day. Kevin.. I didn't know you were Spanish..

Author finalf72 Posted November 24, 2004 Author Posted November 24, 2004 so should i buy something with benzol peroxide?
missopinionated Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Drink lots of water; watch how much fat you eat; eat fruit twice a day; excercise; wash with gentle soap morning and night; use a light, loose powder, applied with a big, bushy brush. Mostly, eat well. Fruits, vegetables, lots of water. Go EASY on the milk and beer; a glass of wine a day is fine and NO, chocolate does not cause zits or oil 1 ounce a day is good for your mind. The Canadian Food Guide is a great place to start. http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/hpfb-dgpsa/onpp-bppn/food_guide_rainbow_e.html
SoleMate Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Treatment with over the counter creams containing either... ...salicylic acid or ...alpha hydroxy acid They're fairly gentle, yet really good at drying up the oil and sloughing off all those excess dead skin cells. When you wash, use only gentle soaps or cleaners, cool or tepid water, and be gentle...don't scrub hard. That just stimulates/irritates your oil glands so they go wild!
heckno Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 Use pro activ. It's the best product i've ever tried in my life. They have a money back guarantee and it really keeps your skin looking beautiful, I never get a pimple. Remember though, it's not guaranteed to work on cystic acne. If you'd rather go the cheap drugstore route, remember no matter what cleanser and toner you use, you must use a moisturizer for oily skin. What happens with most people is they scrub and cleanse and use these toners, but never moisturize.. then the skin is left super dry and the oil glands end up over producing which makes the skin oily. Neutrogena is by far the better choice. Use the glycerin bars they have (about 2.50 each, come in white box) for your skin, and invest in a good clay mask with benzoyl peroxide in it, also from neutrogena.
Naive Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 If your skin is only oily I advice you to wear an Estee Lauder lotion. You can ask at the counter and they will be sure to give you the appropriate one for your skin. If you have acne, then Pro-Activ is the only way to go. I actually started using it again and it's real good.
heckno Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 I'd say clinique has some of the better department store brands, well more reputable amongst those with just basic skin problems, not really for acne..but oily skin, yes.
NiCoLe20 Posted November 24, 2004 Posted November 24, 2004 how do u get rid of acne scars/marks? would i have to see a dermatoligist to get one of the chemical peels or laser surgeries? anyone have any info about this
RC77 Posted November 25, 2004 Posted November 25, 2004 For me eating right and drinking a lot of water is great.
heckno Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 Nicole, It depends on the severity of the acne scars. THere are over the counter type scar removers that do work wonders, but at 25-40 bucks a box (a few applications) it can get quite costly. I'd only suggest that for the minor discolorations and marks. The deeper ones or more severe can be treated by your dermatologist very effectively, and sometimes insurance will cover this. You can try skin resurfacing, dermabrasion... it works wonders. This actually helps people with all sorts of skin problems. You can also try and get a glycolic peel, depending on what your derm says. Either way, you'll end up with almost flawless skin after one or two applications if the problem is moderate, and you'll save yourself the hassle of going from product to product, to spas and such.. hope that helps
AwfulAdria Posted November 26, 2004 Posted November 26, 2004 I had a chemical peel and my skin is great now. I didn't have any breakouts as a teen but when i hit my 30's i started getting these cystic like breakouts. I even took accutane (made my ears peel) but by far the chemical peel did the best. It evened out my skin and no break outs since May. Adria
Swoup Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 Michael Jackson hated his skin too .... Maybe you should just learn to live with it
AwfulAdria Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 It varies on who you go to. I am a nurse so I only paid 75.00 (doctor friend) in the clinic they can be upward to 300.00-500.00 is a general estimate. It varies to the part of the country you are in as well. Adria
EC Posted December 2, 2004 Posted December 2, 2004 I hate my skin too. I have atopic Dermatitis which mean really sensitive skin so I breakout for anything and I am allergic to everything. Even contact solution!!! It's crazy. I have to bathe with special soap, special shampoos and conditioners, special lotions, and wash my clothes with baby detergent. Lotion is my bestfriend, and lets not even talk about waxing or shaving that is hell to me. But little by little I'm learning to deal with my skin. As for the Acne I use Proactiv now and it leaves my skin so beautiful and doesn't over dry it and I haven't had a single break out in sooo long. I love it, it's the only thing that has worked for me. I also use anti-bacterial soap in the shower on my skin and that helps with razor bumps and when I'm washing my face in the shower It kills everything and leaves my skin suprisingly soft.
Author finalf72 Posted December 19, 2004 Author Posted December 19, 2004 oh no.... heres whats happening now. im washing three times a day and now my skin is all dry and flaky! what should i do? is there a certain lotion i should use or certain lotions to avoid?
