Ahhh, I was like  ??? :)

Yeah, great idea, New Orleans! I love it there!

Florida is rather inexpensive if ya ask me.

I found traveling around Southeast Asia a good way to recover from one break up I had some years ago. First of all it is cheap, so you don't feel like you are spending all your money. Secondly there are so many people traveling through Asia these days and it usually feels like you can meet up with new people here and there. I enjoyed traveling Asia while sad and recovering because the weather was always nice and warm (the sun was a healer) and the ocean beautiful. I'd try maybe Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia---what about India? I spent three months in India trying to forget about an ex....it did wonders for me. I met up with a few male travel companions and we had a lot of fun. I met other people going through the same things as me. It really reassured me.

I saw this place on the today show, I thought it was beautiful:

Cap Juluca on the island of Anguilla in the British West Indies.

The beach, OMG.

Paris is cheap around now. It's a bit cold but it's gorgeous, lots to see and the men are beautiful.

Or you could try Florence but I'd recommend that for the spring or the fall.

Boston for really good mussels, lobster and clam chowder? I broke up with my fiancé years ago and ran to boston, cut off all of my hair (a bob, not sinead) and ate lots of really good seafood. good for the soul...

Colorado. oh wait, it's cold in the mountains and couples get all stupid.

But me, I'd hedge my bets and go to Paris. It's always fun although they don't much like the people that re-elected bush.

Me, I'm going to Colorado...

Hi Ladies, (is it only my impression, or did only females answer to this thread?, seems like guys dont care so much about where to go on a vacation by yourself)

thank you for all your great suggestions. I made a list of them and will surely visit some of the places you suggested in the future.

I have decided to go to Montreal. I have never been there and hear it is a cool city, plus I have a friend there so I wont be all alone and can save money staying at her place.

But keep on posting if you like, I have a feeling that I am not the only one who enjoyed reading your posts.

Thanks a lot to all of you!

Good choice! It's a great place. Mind you, I think I'd pick any month except November to visit anyplace in Canada - well, except here because the weather's so mild. Still, Montreal is beautiful and there's lots to see and do.

my daughter and i are supposed to go to the big island hawaii next june for two weeks! anyone been there?!

Yes indeedy! Twice. LOVED it! By all means rent a car and circle the island. Stay a couple of days in Hilo stay in Kona for a week or so and then maybe even near the volcano. It's definitely worth it to see all the different landscapes - from the volcano to the cacti to the tropical forest! And drink Kona coffee. And munch macadamia nuts. And if Eve's Garden of Eating is still in Hilo, for sure go and eat the sweet buns.

Man. I have *got* to get travelling again!

Great choice! I have heard really good things about the city myself. Lots of things to do, great restaurants, etc.

Florida can be one of your CHEAPEST destinations...like the lady with the bazooms said.

Do as I did when my ex left me for a 21yr old. I went to see his family in Aiea, Hawaii!

Did he know, no!!!!!!! But it was nice to see I will remain family! :bunny:

Then I traveled to Dallas, Texas to see my daughter 5 months after it was over.

Next is to Colorado for that ski trip I never did get to take in the last 5 years!

Traveling fool oh yes and I love it!

As a Canadian, I think it is great to hear all the praise about Montreal.

I highly recommend Toronto as well.

When I travelled by myself I went to the Caribbean - Cuba and then Bahamas. Both times I went all inclusive and had a great time. I only had breakfast by myself and made a lot of friends who invited me to have lunch/dinner with them. It was great! I could do everything I wanted, when I wanted and when I wanted to socialize, I could. I was the only boss of me.

Have fun!

First of all -- Angkor Wat, in Cambodia. From Europe, should be a day to travel there, a day back. Stay at the Angkor Village Hotel -- very nice little boutique hotel, not too expensive, but with lots of atmosphere. Wander the ruins. Pretend you are Lara Croft -- you don't need a man! Enjoy a couple of cultural shows, while you are at it, and visit artisans who are reviving ancient Khmer crafts. Have an adventure.

Second choice, for me, might be Istanbul, Turkey or Petra (near Amman, Jordan). Both are exciting, educative adventures. In turkey, go see the blue mosque and the markets. In Jordan, hire a car from Amman until you are close to Petra; then there are tour operators who have horse tours to Petra. It is a very stirring holiday!

Third choice -- surprisingly, Paris. Go to museums and galleries, wander the streets, sit in cafes wearing your dark sunglasses. Be strong and mysterious; think Piaf, Billie Holliday, Audrey Hepburn -- all strong women who have enchanted Paris. You are not rejected -- you are a woman of the world who chooses to see it alone, if need be, rather than sit at home.

I'm actually thinking of Machu Picchu this year, while my fiance is traveling on business. Yes, I'll be alone, and it's expensive. But what am I waiting for? Some man who wants to go with me and pay for it? I could wait my whole life.

I think if you have an adventure, you will forget all about him. And obviously, do NOT go anywhere you and he talked about going together!

Carefull what you wish for Stinkerbelle.... you just might end up being alone for the rest of you life. And I have this hunch that deep down inside the idea terrifies you.

Posted

But I'm not wishing for anything.

I'm happily engaged, I've got a great job, I've got a house and some savings, and when I find that I have time to spend alone, I don't mind it at all.

Did my words strike a nerve?

Just when you think everything is peachy........ BAMM!............ You get punched in the mouth.............

So...... I would be a bit more conservative with throwing your weight around...........

Posted

"Throwing your weight around" ????

I didn't see anyone doing that. Sorry if I said anything you are feeling sensitive about.

nevermind..........
