truthbetold Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 I started painting my nails recently, as I had some spare time and my gaming PC wasn't available. I thought they looked pretty, but really weren't worth the hassle for women who do any housework unless you get a gel manicure done professionally (more $$). If you can find out a way to preserve a regular manicure through even one hour of cooking and cleaning, please contact me. Toenails worked out great though neither mattered to my guy. Have you tried a good top coat such as Seche Vite or Poshe? Each one will work differently with different brands and/or an individual's nails. I've tried both and find that Poshe works great. SV causes too much shrinkage for me. I can get 7 days easy and I'm hard on my nails. I'm in healthcare and even when I was very hands on it held up. I am using hand sanitizer and I do type a lot and I only have minimal tip wear. I couldn't be bothered to have mine done professionally I like fun but not high maintenance. So I disagree that women with nice nails mustn't do anything all day. If I do anything intense though I wear rubber gloves. I don't do french manicures though I prefer colors and all sorts and types. The new glitter flakes that are suspended in a gel are really fun. They look like metal flake in a car paint! Zoya brand has some really cool colors as does the Ninja polish and a Russian brand you can get on the Ninja site called Dance Legends. There's some great multi chromes even from OPI Ha! I guess you can tell I like to polish my nails. My husband often compliments the colors and he definitely notices when I change them up. He wouldn't like black which I don't wear anyway but that's about it. He even likes an Essie dark blue called dive bar because of the depth and color shift (he has an artsy background and side of him:laugh:) I wear my nails shorter now though, just above the tips and squared off a bit. The only thing he will comment on that he doesn't get, is sometimes the tips and toes don't match, they will for vacation but I like different colors, too many not enough days! I used to have really long nails when I was a teen early twenties and ugh, I just think now for the most part it looks awful and even my husband has commented before he doesn't care for long nails. In the past, pretty much with the guys that I dated they all noticed and liked my nails. So I think there are going to be guys that have a preference and/or notice and may even like them with all the artwork and jewels which I admit I don't get doing all that, but other guys that would prefer natural so I think it'll depend on the guy. 1

Interesting. I have a topcoat by Sally Hansen (supposedly one of the better brands) but have not tried others. I'll look around. Yeah, my guy is fine with anything except artificial nails (the stick-on variety). I only started doing anything with my nails recently, and it's definitely more for me, cause I love how they are all shiny and smooth with polish on. I definitely don't expect to keep it up for the long-term, especially when work gets busier again.
FortunateSon Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 I prefer a woman with the natural look of no fingernail or toenail polish. I do like them to be trimmed and well manicured. Long toe nails repulse me.
CarrieT Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 As a jewelry maker, I have always had pretty short, icky nails. Working with one's hands makes for gnarled and mangled nails. For my wedding last November, I worked hard on my nails to let them grow out and I got them "gelled" with a bake-on polish that lasts longer than normal manicures. My fiancé -- and now husband -- has commented often how much he likes them and we have compromised; if he pays for the gel manicures, I will maintain the nails but they will never be really long or unmanageable so I can't continue my art. When they get to a "clicking" length on the keyboard, I trim them back and get them re-done. Surprised he loves it so...
