HokeyReligions Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 It's Ba-ack! Everything was fine a couple weeks ago, then "BOOM" it's back growing like a weed. The doc called a little while ago with my test results. He also wants me to see the cardiologist because he doesn't know if my heart is healthy enough to undergo aggressive cancer treatment! I'm too young for this crap!!! I've still got three more payments on my "final arrangements" -- don't want hubby to have to screw with this after I'm gone---all he will have to do is make a phone call, the rest will be taken care of. Later...... the phone rang while I was typing this. An engineering company who is familiar with my work has an opening and would like to interview with me. (they sought me out after talking with some people I have worked with in the past and some of my current vendors) The pay is great (more than I'm making now) and super benefits. They don't know I have cancer! (^&*^*%@ #&^*b* * *&^#&$*^#*$^#*^$ *&^*^^!%@^%$)(#*&%)*( (*#&(#@* Well, I'll still have my hair for the interview!!!
RowanRavyn Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Hokey, ::HUGS:: I am so sorry. I hate cancer. I can't even begin to explain how much I hate it. It is a monster that has taken so many of my family members, took a bite out of me, but thankfully, so far, it didn't like the taste of me, and hasn't been back to visit. You are in my thoughts, hun. Whatever our disagreements on issues, I can respect you because you stand up for what you believe in. Take care. Row
midori Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I'm so sorry to hear about this. Why, why why? But great news about the job! We're all pulling for you.
JackieQ Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Am new here. But, want to send my hugs too. My mom had breast cancer. Jackie Q...
Naive Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Cancer is a b*tch!!!!!!!!! I hope that you kick its a**!!! I wish you the best Hokey.
immoralist Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Hokey, I'm so sorry to hear this latest news. I know you'll fight this. You're a feisty woman! Good news about the possible engineering job. I suspect you're not going to share your latest cancer diagnosis with your prospective employer. If you do, however, and you don't get an offer, this employer may have violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADA is a federal statute, which prohibits employment discrimination on account of disability. Good luck in the interview, and in your treatment.
meanon Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Hokey that's such bad news . Life is so unfair at times. You are one of life's survivors, you've overcome so much. That resilience and fighting spirit will stand you in good stead now. We'll all be thinking of you, wishing you well again.
moimeme Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Ohhhhhhhhh Hoke Then again, I doubt cancer has a chance against you - you are one formidable opponent. I think them bad cells will soon be dying off, unable to live in a hostile environment People beat cancer all the time, Hoke. You can, too!
izzybelle Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 hokey, my heart goes out to you. i had a bilateral mastectomy almost 5 years ago and live in constant fear of hearing the news you heard. and i can only imagine how you're feeling. i'm so, so sorry!! there are very few things that leave me at a loss for words but your story is one of them. don't give up hope, it seems like every day they're finding new ways to fight this. i hope you're located somewhere where they can do everything possible for you. from your other posts that i've read, i get the impression that you're a fighter. please know that we're all here. and pamper yourself as much as you can! izzy
tiki Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 My thoughts and prayers are with you at this trying time.
Merin Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 (((Hokey))) Keeping you in my thoughts.. you're such a strong, gracious person Hokey. I admire your will and drive.. you've yet to let anything keep you down, and i've no doubt you will not allow this to hold you back.
brashgal Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I have a friend who applied for and started a fabulous new job while she was undergoing chemotherapy. She said she knew it sounded crazy to add the stress of a new job but it made her truly happy, I'd like to think it helped speed her recovery. I'm hoping the same for you Hokey.
blind_otter Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 I'm sorry, this must be a stressful time. I know how difficult this must be. I wish you all the best.
Author HokeyReligions Posted November 17, 2004 Author Posted November 17, 2004 Awe, thanks everyone I'm OK -- a bit concerned about my husband though. Its much MUCH harder on him than on me. He lost his dad last month to cancer. I have not decided what I'm going to do yet. I'll tell 'ya one thing though, if we decide that there is no hope I'm going to sit outside with a whiskey sour in one hand and a cigarette in the other, listening to good old rock and roll music and laughing at my puppy dogs & throwing toys for them and giving them kisses -- watching my husband do the same--- and that's how I want to exit the planet! Oh, and I'll be eating a chocolate cheescake too!
Naive Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 Of course there will be hope, there's always hope!

Well, I haven't decided yet if I want to pursue further treatment. I'm not a life-at-all-costs person. It might be better for my family, and myself, to accept it and make arrangements for them for after I'm gone and then none of us have to get on that long roller-coaster ride. We'll see. I'm going for even more tests! Cardiology this time and most probably an angiogram (worst part of that is some strange guy with a straight edge shaving ones pubes! ) Besides, I'm not a particular fan of chocolate itself (it tears me up inside) --but Chocolate Cheescake is, as I've always said, "To Die For" and I haven't had any in years! so.......
Matilda Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 worst part of that is some strange guy with a straight edge shaving ones pubes! ) It might be a woman. I used to do a lot of that when I worked as a nurse, and they usually don't shave everything, just where the bend of your leg is. I hate to hear that your cancer is back. You have one amazing attitude though.
quankanne Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I don't dare ask about the pube-shaving possibilities, but will through in some hugs and prayers for your peace of mind and recovery, Hoke. shxtshxtshxt ....

I banned that poster, now she's back? What's going on? Moderator Two: I don't know, let me check the IP address..... what the hell kind of IP address is that? Moderator One: You're right! Moderator Two: Huh? Moderator One: You said it, the IP address is from Hell! Moderator Two: Gotta be Hokey! OH NO! There she goes onto the political board and WE CAN'T STOP HER! AAARRRUUUGGHHHHH!!!!!![/color] Like I said. What mind?
kiwi29f Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 I'm so sorry. My grandmother is fighting breast cancer right now. I hope they'll be able to treat this thing. Good Luck & stay strong. Good Luck with the job also.
niko1999 Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Hokey, your attitude for one thing will make such a huge difference. My thoughts are with you, you cant let anything happen. And even if the cheesecake is "to die for", you should have it anyway. PUBES? WHAT?!!!
RowanRavyn Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Hokeeeey! LOL you are cracking me up with the IP address from hell. Chin up and keep us up to date on those tests. I can't think of a better way to spend time though, whiskey sours, puppy dawgs, and chocolate cheesecake. YUM!!!!
tokyo Posted November 22, 2004 Posted November 22, 2004 Be strong and get your damn treatment. Without you Bush will feel lonely without any supporters!
