Then POF should start charging then. Where I come from FREE means you do whatever.

Including ignoring basic social niceties, and boundaries when it comes to broaching certain topics? I'm afraid to think how far you might take that away from anything chat-related, so I'm exiting the topic.

Hookup site? As in guys send messages trying to hook up with girls and girls ignore them?

Give us a gauge on how bad your opener was.

Worse than this?: "Hey sit on my face I'll guess your weight :)"

I suppose my cousin is quite lucky then, with the majority of people seeming to be weirdos or only interested in sex, him and his wife met and had a lovely experience.

I got weird messages too but I am programmed to say......."well you get what you pay for"

POF is not just a chat site. And Free, in these times still places responsibility on the website hosts if its actions, philosophy promote, permit irresponsible behavior that may affect others. POF actively creates an environment for people to engage in and develop relationships, communication, etc. Lot's of liability. Free, in no way, means you can do what you want. That would be chaotic and counter-productive to the purpose and role of any responsible website, company, entity.

Well this is all new to me because I thought that when you are not paying for anything you can't expect much. I received a message from a guy and didn't feel the need to report it because it's a FREE SITE

I was not aware that POF was a "hookup site"

It's not. It's just an unfocused, clumsy site that has never hired a professional designer to rework the user interface. It has managed to survive despite not being coherent or even minimally attractive. It attracts people who are insensitive to it's deficiencies. OKC outclasses it by factor of a thousand. The vast majority of message I get are from women I am not interested in. On OKC I get fewer views and messages, but they tend to be evolved, attractive women. The people who run POF are clueless. They have a huge user base, and anybody with a lick of sense would hire a team of ace developers to bring it up to modern standards and leverage that advantage. But they just keep doing stuff like imposing restrictions on maximum age differences. They could easily let users set their own limits but they like being autocratic. Their relationship needs assessment is a huge joke.

I got 3 creepers so far on PoF and none on Okcupid and three times as many guys pming me. Though I guess it's different as a female on those kind of sites.

Perhaps sharing phone numbers got your account banned or deleted?

How, i saw no way of contacting anyone

The article I read, specifically stated older men, hence my mentioning it that way. I wasn't trying to turn this into a gender war.

I know some women who wouldn't mind hearing from an older man, but I wasn't interested in dating someone who would be one of my dad's peers.

The actual email I received from the site Admin.

My name is Markus and I created POF/Plentyoffish. When I created POF, I wanted it to be all about finding relationships with the right person. For the first 7 years this worked really well, I got the site to 10 million users without any employees people and POF was generating a ton of relationships. Around 3 years ago, everyone started using the website via mobile phones. Today about 70% of POF use is via a mobile phone and unfortunately about 2% of men started to use POF as more of a hookup site mostly due the the casual nature of cell phone use.

In sticking with my vision that POF is all about Relationships, I'm going to make a bunch of changes to ensure it stays a relationship-focused site.

1. Any first contact between users that contains sexual references will not be sent. Anyone who tries to get around this rule will be deleted without warning. This rule has actually been in effect since last month and it's made the site so much better.

2. You can only contact people +/- 14 years of your age. There is no reason for a 50 year old man to contact a 18 year old women. The majority of messages sent outside those age ranges are all about hookups. Anyone who tries to get around this rule will get deleted.

3. Intimate Encounters will go away in the next few months. There are 3.3 Million people who use the site every day, of those there are only 6,041 single women looking for Intimate Encounters. Of those 6,041 women, the ones with hot pictures are mostly men pretending to be women. Intimate Encounters on POF can be summed up as a bunch of horny men talking to a bunch of horny men pretending to be women.

In short the vast majority of people will not be impacted. This is because the vast majority of people are not going around spamming women saying "let's have sex tonight". I can't change POF alone, I need your help to get the word out there that POF is all about relationships!

Markus

Older men contacting younger woman was the example.

The email clearly states all users are part of the restriction and stated why (hookups)

If you don't want to start a gender war, check your facts before singling one gender out over the other. :)

I do agree though that OP is moron.

I didn't single them out, that was what I read in an article. I didn't see any such email, because I hardly ever check that account, and had no picture up, wasn't talking to anyone.

Sounds like Markus is the moron since he believes all adults are looking for love

The guy who created the site really sent that email?? Wow.

Aside from the very unprofessional delivery of the message in terms of language and sentence structure -- he is destroying his own site by eliminating casual encounters.

Everything I read, whether here, or on pua forums, or in real life -- it seems to be the same thing: POF is for easy lays.

You eliminate the ability for people to find such easy sex and that site will be nonexistent in a few years time.

Maybe they're trying to finally clean that POS website up.

OKC is by far the better of the two in terms of user experience (I'm not talking about whether or not it has people you fancy on it, or who fancy you)

But you'll still get banned from there too if you act like a d!ck.

Stay away from online dating if you want to live a happy life. You'd be better off meeting some one here complaining about god knows what than on a dating site. Really just going out and doing things and meeting people is best.

Met the most wonderful woman from OLD. Not for everyone, but it's not all that sinister. I've also met a few very nice women from POF. Haven't been on it for a few months now, so no idea what is going on with it.

Based on that Markus email sounds like it's possible those numbers were from dudes anyway. Just saying.

d00d, is that the only song your parakeet sings? Why is it so important to you to say the same thing a thousand times? Sorry you struck out. Maybe try a different photo.

We can agree to disagree....but you are wrong.

OP, I had my profile deleted too after I finally started doing well on it. I feel your pain, brother.

Unfortunately, OKCupid sucks more and Match is a paid site. So it's back to meeting girls IRL for this young buck.

Yeah that's the messed up part, I had like 5 numbers in 2 days and it;s now all over.
