This break up has made me realise things. Do I quit university?

I know that this isn't strictly for this site but you have all been so helpful over the last 4 months since my break up.

Basically this break up broke me so much as a person that I've had to rebuild myself, it has made me look at my core values and desires.

Out of this I have finally realised what I want with mg life but unfortunately I'm on completely the wrong degree course to do this. Me and my ex chose to go to the same university and this added pressure on me to make a choice of study at the time. Although I love my current course it won't lead me to where I want to go.

I don't know whether I should quit (it would also help me to get away from my ex) and follow this new dream or carry on with my wonderful life at uni with some lovely friends.

I'm also worried that this is just a phase that I'm holding onto to help me get over him. Any opinions as to what I should do? I don't want to do a crazy, irrational thing (quitting uni) because of a break up.

If you are unsure about your degree, talk to your advisor. They can guide you as to what degree path you should explore. As to quitting university all together, I think that is a BIG mistake. Even if your new found dream does not require a degree, having that to fall back on is a huge plus. A lot of times, just having a degree, any degree, can make a difference between getting the job and not.

Lean on your lovely friends at the university and get through this. If a year from now, after you are completely over your ex, you feel like you are wasting your time at school then talk about quitting (although once again, Id recommend you finish no matter what).

Well, 4 months is not a long time to recover from a breakup. I suspect that you're still hurting and searching for answers.

Be completely honest with yourself: Is this desire to change universities and programs more to show him that you're moving on or is it truly for your own sake?

Thank you for your responses everyone, I really appreciate it. Well basically I'd need to do a completely different degree. I'm looking into nature conservation or zoology opposed to my current literature and creative writing degree. Bit of a difference :p

I would have to go back to college to get science qualifications and then reapply to uni. I know it's something I want to do but I also know I haven't been thinking straight the last 4 months.

Unfortunately you can't get funding for 2 degrees and so I can't finish this one(2 years left) and then take the next one if its still want I want to do. You also can't seem to get far into wildlife conservation without a degree.

I'd also have to make the decision now as if I go back to uni I have to pay for this year.

Has anyone else ever made decisions like this after a break up?
