There is the difference. Kind of hard to start bumping uglies when sitting at a table eating dinner. You also aren't out on a dancefloor mingling with other women.

If men or women want to go out for a couple drinks with friends, socialize in the group, hey, fine and dandy.

But whether anyone wants to admit it or not, when it comes to clubbing, women and men doll themselves up for a night of grabbing the attention of the opposite sex(unless at a gay bar:p)

And I realize there will be exceptions to the rule. But in my experience, I haven't met a woman yet that likes to go clubbing that can be trusted.

It's true.

And as Chaucer said, i can't stop them, nor should i try to change them.

In the past, i wanted to change them, but that's stupid.

You don't want to tip off your potential future major SO about everything about you.

You should let things go somewhat organic and if both of you have the same morals by default, it's great.

Especially since [and some women might not like this], women tend to 'mold' themselves to their guy more than the other way around; i'm referring to picking the same hobbies, interests and morals.

In the past, when i dated those clubbers, i wanted to change them, to make them more like me ... even though i still believe that they were wrong, i realize now that it ain't going to last long, and that it's selfish.

So now, i just want to see the real 'them' as soon as possible.

PS: Another thing is that we are referring to the clubbing scene from our own individual subjective experience.

This is an international forum.

I live in a former communist country, and a strong clubbing scene sprouted about 2 decades ago, while there was none before.

So the ppl who usually do the clubbing scene over here, are not seen as good ppl.

I'm not referring to the young ppl who go clubbing during college, i'm referring to those over 25.

In most places where girls go for a GNO, there is no dancing.

And though we have a strong penetration of women in the workforce [the local car manufacturer has 33% of it's employees female, including at management level and on the assembly line], most women are very concious about how they are seen socially, and there is a stigma about the clubbing scene.

There is a stigma about the club scene here in America too...don't let any of these people try and lie to you and say there aren't.

And that stigma exists for a reason...The SAME reason they are informally referred to as "Meat Markets" here in America...and for the same reason they are informally referred to as "Single's Clubs" or "Singles Joints" here in America.

The term Meat Market draws parallels between real meat markets, where meat is hung up and displayed in plain view for people to look at, judge the quality of, and make decisions of whether to buy or not, and the atmosphere of many nightclubs that are only seemingly in existence so individuals can display themselves to others for judgement and "acquisition", and likewise, size up and attempt to "acquire" others.

girl1: "what are you up to tonight then? going out?"

girl2: "yeah we're going down to X dance club for some drinks. wanna come?"

girl1: "EW, no! that place is such a meatmarket"

Another definition:

Meat Market

A sleazy, cheesy club where the only reason anyone goes there is to pick up. If you're not there for this reason then you'll have a terrible night being unwantingly groped and hit-on. Girl's and guy's grind amongst one another to see who they will f*ck in the bathroom or take home.

Good God this is still going on!?! Isn't there an agree to disagree button somewhere? For goodness sakes, this is about the abstract arguing.

If you don't like clubs, then that is a rule in your relationship. If you like clubs then everyone go crazy. At what point do we stop telling other people how they should think, feel and act!?!

There is a stigma about the home scene here in America too...don't let any of these people try and lie to you and say there aren't.

And that stigma exists for a reason...The SAME reason they are informally referred to as "Hermits Club" here in America...and for the same reason they are informally referred to as "Otaku" in Asia.

Yeah Piggyoink, how insightful. If you ain't dancin in da club, you must be a hermit. It's the only place to go here in America...a dance club...

...NOTHING else to do...

There aren't any coffee shops, luncheons, restaurants, movie theaters, bowling alleys, bars, lounges, homes, shopping malls, strip malls, museums, art galleries, tourist attractions, amusement parks, water parks, golf clubs, miniature golf, beaches, boardwalks, pizza joints, ice cream parlors, computer labs, wi-fi coffee shops, gyms, yoga classes, spinning classes, lakes, lakes to walk around, lakes to fish on, fishing, rowing, boating, swimming, pools, patios, grilling out, book clubs, movie clubs, poetry clubs, short story clubs, short story classes, cooking classes, cooking, cooking parties (everyone makes something OR everyone brings a different ingredient/piece of the meal), flea markets, yard sales, hiking, go to the library, community sports, play board games, take a walking tour, explore your downtown area, visit a zoo, quilt, origami, play football, play baseball, play wiffle ball, play soccer, volunteer your time, go to a dog park, play cards, play Frisbee, go to a park, go star gazing, go for a bike ride, visit the local fire station, go to the opera, go to the theater (stage, not movie), etc. etc. etc.

Nothing.

Nothing to do...if you ain't clubbin, you a hermit fool!

I listed roughly 70 things to do OFF THE TOP OF MY FRIGGING HEAD!

None of which include places to partake in the ART OF DAHNCE...

Such as salsa dancing lessons, ballroom dancing lessons, swing dancing lessons, disco dancing lessons, square dancing lessons, jazz clubs, bars with dance floors, lounges with dance floors, etc.

Let me guess. ALL THOSE dancing styles I mentioned are "stupid" and "tacky." It's only a true art form when you are grinding your hips/butt into an aroused male crotch or empty mid-air (for those girls who don't like the male attention) and throwing your hands up in the air like ya just don't care, right?

...wine tours, bus tours, city tours, sporting events, concerts, festivals, art festivals, wine festivals...

Yeah all of those would be at dance studios or "lounges with dance floors". How does that jive with your comment "none of which include places to partake in the ART OF DANCE"?

The 70 things I listed came PRIOR and DID NOT include anything involving "dahnce." And since my audience NEEDS to dahnce..I then subsequently included places to DAHNCE.

Get it?

Yes, though probably not what you are referencing. But it still didn't make sense in the context in which you wrote it. It's okay, you can admit a mistake every now and then.

Alright, I'm old and would rather have my gums set on fire than have to hang out with a bunch of 20-somethings and listen to that fresh hell they call "dance music," but even *I* would rather do that than go to some snoozefest short story class, poetry club meeting or spend an hour doing Origami. Just freakin shoot me.

Options my dear east coaster options...And I can tell that you, much like many of our new associates in the "anti-club" department have a penchant for overstatements and exaggerations. Gums lit on fire lol...j/k point taken.

I would not like to dance with 20 year olds OR do short story classes...my point perhaps was missed on you (unless you were just trying to make a joke - in which case ignore this)...the point was that "The Club OR a hermit" is ridiculous...countless other activities exist.

East Coaster - since you HATE the activities I suggested...AND you hate clubbing...what do you do for fun?
