I am going through a divorce and from what I read am in the same boat as a lot of other people going through it. I have no social life. I've lost touch with friends and don't know how to get back into the game. I found a website called Meetup. My idea is to start a new Meetup Group for divorced or widowed people trying to get back into the social swing of things - not a singles group - but to meet new friends and get out of the house. I came up with a name RADD - Rebuild After Divorce/Death. What do you think? Would you join a group like this in your area?

I think it's a great idea, and I did look for a divorce support group on there when I was newly separated.

Try to join other meetup groups for any activities you might be interested in, it'll help you to meet new people.

In the beginning it's hard to want to get out and do things, but that was crucial to my healing. A friend told me in the beginning to take any offers that come my way - lunch, dinner, coffee, etc. You never know where they might lead, and the more offers you accept, the more invitations you'll get in the future. Sometimes you have to force yourself to get up and go and be willing to be outside your comfort zone. It'll prepare you for the scary world of dating eventually too.

I was a runner prior to my separation, so my comfort zone was (and still is), joining running groups and making new running friends in the area I moved to after the separation.

Finding some social groups and making new friends will be a good thing.

Great idea strenght in numbers. I adore Meetup, may I suggest you also use it to join non-divorce groups to increase your social circle. It was way to get out of the house without me having to plan all the details, which in the early days was not possible.

Today still enjoying using meetup, even when I travel for work. My groups include, dog walkers, knitting/crochet, painting, cooking, baking, gardening, and wine tasting.

Get on out there-Mystery
