For the first time I'm not excited about my birthday

Recommended Posts

Hey L'S Fam, I was going through some things in my mind and wanted to get it out. I turn 35 on Wednesday and for the first time I'm not excited about my birthday. I'm a 35 year old male with a good job, graduating from college at the end of the year, no trouble with the law, I do all the right things say the right things, with a strong family to back me up. I guess the fact that I'm single with no kids and I'm feeling kind of down about that, is this normal? Every year I'm always excited about my birthday but this year not so much. I see some of my close friends are either getting engage, married or are already married with children. I was married once to a woman with a son but it didn't work out, and as of now I'm no where near being in a relationship right now. Is this normal or am I over thinking this? Thanks in advance for your views....

Birthdays were fun when I was a kid, but I started getting tired of them when I was about 15. After I got my 1st job at 15, I realized I could afford to buy all my own crap, and all I wanted at that point was to be 18. 21 was no big deal to me, because I was in no big rush to drink alcohol.

Don't sweat it, dude.

are u simply feeling this as a side effect of all your friends being paired off already? or is it really stemming from deeper loneliness inside of you? Honestly, I've never been excited about my b-day... Forgot it so many times already, and sometimes I don't even know how old I am when I'm wondering my own age. I think rather than not being as excited anymore being the issue, you might be slightly depressed from something else related to either you getting a year older or the celebration for it.

It's a combination of both

This isn't specific to your particular situation, but you may find that as you get older you start getting excited about birthdays again, in that "Holy f*ck! I've cheated death another f*cking year!" kind of way.
