Do we miss the SO or just the situation?

A friend made me think. Do we really miss the other person or we miss being with someone? If our story ended it means that something was wrong, and maybe we don't realise that often, but we were unhappy too. And also, after some time we just get used to the fact that that particular person isn't in our life anymore. So then why we keep being sad? My friend said that in my case (started a 3y relationship when I was 15, met my ex straight after, been 7 years with him, rush in a relationship with the person responsible for my presence on LS without being single for even a week, stayed with him 6 months and dumped 3 times, the final one 5 days ago) it's because I am a relationship person and I am used to being in relationships. Therefore I don't really miss A (we would fight every single day of those 6 months) but just being with someone. Planning things for long weekends, knowing that you are never alone, knowing that you always have someone to share things with, someone special who is there for you and for you only.

What do you think? This idea is starting to make me feel better. I have been really sad in the last days because of the breakup, I felt so lonely. But if we don't really miss THEM and we realise that, healing should be faster. Of course I miss things he used to do -fun comments during films, being caring as only he can do, sex eheh, hugging me all night-, but probably I just miss the situation.

You miss it all. The routine. The knowledge you have someone out there for you. The partnership. The companionship. All of it. So to suddenly have that taken away is very hard and it takes a while to adjust.

Having said that, you were once single, as hard as it may seem, you can make that connection with an infinite number of other people if you let it.
