Should I text her again, or leave it alone?

So there's this girl I kind of knew in High School, we were somewhat acquainted with each other and when we were in the same class I had a pretty big crush on her. Unfortunately I couldn't have pursued her or even really talked to her because my very newly ex-girlfriend at the time was in the same class (we were going through a rough break up and were trying to stay together, but I wasn't really 100% in it, so talking to another girl wasn't really a top priority at the time).

Now that I'm going in to my second year of college and single, I noticed that she was also single. Every once in awhile she'll respond to my tweets and we'll have a short convo over twitter. I decided the other night to man up and ask her for her number...so I DM'ed her and she gave it to me rather quickly. I texted her a few hours later and she read it immediately, but no answer...I'd like to think she forgot to hit the send button or read it during a time crunch and forgot....I just don't know why she would give me her number and not reply to a simple "Hey, it's (my name)", but reply to a bunch of my tweets over the last few months.

I asked my friend for advice and he said "wait a few days and text her again." Is this a good idea? I've just lived my life under the assumption that if she doesn't answer the first time, you shouldn't text her a second....if it's an honest mistake on her part it could work but I don't want to come off as needy.

What should be my next move?

I don't think there's any harm in sending her another text, if she doesn't reply the second time then I would leave it alone.

You could send her another text maybe after a day. If still no reply, then you can leave it alone because she's obviously not interested. I know it sucks.

If all your text said was "Hey, it's (my name)"? That's kind of lame, you should have ended the text with at least a question!

You're right! It's definitely something I regret not doing. But I mean, I would at least expect a response from that.

Well in the next text(if you choose to send one) you can fix that mistake. Just write a simple 'hey, how are you' or something along those lines see if you get a reply.

Pretty lame text if you ask me. Don't waste peoples time with chatter text. Try to get her out to something. Maybe a cool event you came across, etc.

Thing is, we go to colleges kind of far apart. SO, my plan was to have conversations with her over text (she's the kind of girl who likes doing that sort of thing) and then take her out when I come home for Thanksgiving.

If she really really liked you she would have responded to your first text.

If a girl likes you - she lets you know.

Doesn't mean give up, just means don't come on strong when you do make contact.

I'd say forget her. People, regardless of whether they are a buddy who can't respond to a text OR a girl who can't bother to respond to a text is a waste of time. It's just plain rude, and the fact that just because she's a girl and you're letter her get away with this is even worse.

Don't text her again, just throw away her number and find someone who has matured past adolescence.

call, invite her to a group situation (bowling, bbq, picnic, beach/lake day etc) and go from there.

if she gravitates around you during said event, proceed as planned...ask her to hang out casually on a 1+1, then go from there.

but seriously, man up and call.

texting/twating is crap.

Huh?

You'd expect a response from that?

How so?

"Hey its Joe Smith." Wow. That really makes me want to respond. My curiosity is so high right now I just can't contain it.

What type of response would that elicit anyway? Its a declarative sentence. Inquiries usually get responses. Just ask a general question. ;)
