So my boyfriend and I have an amazing relationship. Everything is going great, even though we are long distance we manage to see each other every couple of weeks for several days. His ex who he had broken up with in the beginning of the year and him had a 2 year old son together. He writes music with his brother, and he's writing a song about pretty much his ex and other women out there for everybody who hasn't cared about them, and deceit, that whole kind of thing. She cheated and he was very hurt...then I came into his life and were so happy with ne another. He told me he was worried I would feel skeptical about this and that he does not care about her and I make him so happy. He just wants to express himself and relate to others. But it really has me in a weird mood. Part of me worries he may not be ready if he's still feeling like he needs to let that out, I just don't really know what to think of it. I'm very supportive of his music and I understand he wants other people to be in touch with different things, and this is one of them. I don't know if I should forget it and be supportive, maybe im overreacting. ..or if I have a right for this to make me feel so uncomfortable? I would really appreciate some prompt advice about the situation. I am seeing him this weekend, & I want to be excited, I don't want to feel confused like I am now :-( thanks guys

I'm a former musician. You're reading far too much into it.

One of my friend's is also a musician. He wrote a song with his current girlfirend, whom he is obviously in love with, where the words of the chorus are:

"I love my girl, my heart is hers, but my first love has my soul"

It's simply an artistic expression. Johnny cash has songs about shooting his wife in the face, but he didn;t actually do it.

Interesting. See if he wrote a song with a line like that I would no doubt be upset. But he's also doing a song for me so maybe I am reading too far into it. I know music is about expressing as well as relating/connecting to others, that's what I'm really trying to focus in on.

A lot of it is also just story telling; fictional.

But like I say, my buddy wrote and plays that song with his current girl. As far as I know, she's cool with it but she's also artistic so maybe it's just a state of mind.

And I can name 2 dozen other musicians that have done the same just off the top of my head. Don't take it personal, cause it's not.
