Lie Detector Test, I cheated, what happens if he asks and I fail?

I everyone! I have a problem. I cheated on my boyfriend a long time ago while he was a away at college. I was lonely and I kissed another guy. I never told him and I felt guilty for a while but got over it and now everything is fine. It's always at the back of my mind though...

 

Well we were at a friends house last night whose father is a retired police officer and he has an old lie detector machine. There were about 8 couples hanging out and we started playing with it. About 5 couples used it and we started asking dumb questions like do you like to pick your nose..things like that. Untill it started getting serious and one guy asked if his girlfriend had ever cheated on him. She said no and passed but thats when I freaked out!

 

It was going to be my turn when it was late and they said we will continue this tomorrow it was so much fun. I'm terrified and my boyfriend keeps telling me how he can't wait for tomorrow because it's out turn to use it.

 

I tried to tell him about the kiss last night so that he knows before hand just in case he asks and I fail..

 

I'm freaking out and don't know what to do..a friend told me it's only a lie if you believe it to be? But does that work?

I know you feel badly.. and that says a lot about the kind of person you are.. and thats a good thing.

 

I wouldn't stress over this because IF you do, it's going to cause your heart rate to go up, break into a sweat and then>>>> I'm not saying "Yay you did the right thing" but I think you're being to hard on yourself here... it was a one time thing right... you didn't continue or persue it... tell your boyfriend about it, so you feel better and move on.

my dad took a course in which one of the topics was 'how to beat a lie detector test'. basically he showed me how you beat these things. What you do is have a mental picture of a positive thing, and a negative thing. The positive mental image you will use when you want to answer "yes", and the negative one for "no". As an example, let's say your positive mental image will be a wonderful view of the rocky mountaings, surrounded by lakes, forests and the feeling of a nice cool breeze. Get that mental image in your head. Now for a negative image....a pile of $#!+. When they ask you a question you want to answer yes, you respond by using your positive mental image and by essentially saying "Yes" to the wonderful image. You won't be lying to yourself, essentially, because you believe it to be true. The response will still be yes, you are saying yes to a different thing, but no one can read your thoughts. When they ask you "Have you cheated on your boyfriend?" you picture the mental image of a the pile of dung, and you say "no". In your mind you are saying "NO I DON'T WANT THAT DUNG" but you are still answering the question without lying to yourself or others.

 

My dad could only do good enough to get the reading to say 'inconclusive' after some practice, so I wish you the best of luck.

 

Another idea might be to define the meaning of 'cheating' for yourself. Cheating is having sex w/ someone out of wedlock/relationship right? Well did you have sex with that guy? No. If you truly believe that, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.
