Minnie09 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) Ok so I'm talking to this guy online, and we exchanged pictures and e-mail addresses. What strikes me as odd is 1) he sent me an e-mail right away with his full name, a name that's very rare, and 2) when you google him he's all over the Internet, because he's a very successful executive in a large international company (which he had revealed to some extent in his e-mails, but not in detail) and 3) he's married. The pictures online do match the pictures he sent me. Methinks that somebody could possibly pretend to be him? Why else would a married guy reveal his full name in times of google and Internet and pretend he's available? What's the deal here? Otoh, the pictures he sent me were most probably not copied from the Internet, because they're different from what you can find on there, so where are they coming from? Maybe somebody he knows set him up? Why though? Or am I being paranoid? I mean, I am single, but I haven't even given him my last name. And even then, I wouldn't be found, because my name is frequent and I am not a public figure and not important in business. but I would never give anyone my real name that early on. Too many freaks out there. And a married guy would do just that? Or maybe he's separated and the articles are old? Still......then I would consider him too trusting and naive. A successful business man? naive? Thoughts? And why would someone like that resort to OLD? You would think he's got plenty of encounters on a daily basis...... Edited August 18, 2013 by Minnie09
Mascara Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Some people just aren't tech savvy, or they don't know how easy it is to get so many details. I had someone contact me whose username was his real name. Also an unusual name. Googled him, turns out he'd knocked 10 years off his age in profile. Not as bad as being married, but still dumb.
Author Minnie09 Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 I'm sure he's googled himself once or twice. Or at least his personal assistant has...... There are pictures, videos, all business-related stuff. I can't believe he would put himself in a situation where a complete stranger (me) can find out so much about him with no effort. He can't be that tech-dumb.....
CrystalCastles Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Yeah, this sitch seems really fishy. Can you hold a Skype sesh with him? So that you don't actually have to go anywhere, but at least you'll be able to see his face and hear his voice, and it will probably be more believable than pictures and OLD profile.
TB Rhine Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 We need a Catfish spin-off about people who share TOO MUCH online.
Author Minnie09 Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 What is catfish? Are these people who create fake identities? He sounds so fishy I can't believe it. He's been trying to make me look him up all along. Jeez.
Author Minnie09 Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Lol catfish is a show on mtv where people spend years talking (usually) and they meet and the people are not who they expected. and honestly its not that suspicious people use full names all the time i believe my email has mine O.o Yeah but you're probably not in the media.
