Babolat Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I am very slightly considering the OLD thing again so I am looking at profiles. What's with everyone posting a photo of themselves in their car? Really? Do you filter out people based on their photos...not looks, but what they are wearing and/or doing in the photo? I think about my last gf, who I met online, and her photos. Most were fun ones, at a bar, one or two bikini ones, a couple with her daughter. But mostly fun partying photos..and guess what...that's who she is. She was also, IMHO, now that I think back on it, trying to show her breasts. Tight low cut tops, low cut dresses, even a bikini shot or two. She has great breasts no doubt, and I am sure I was attracted to that in her photos. In all mine I was fully clothed, long pants, long sleeve shirt...just me I guess.
Imported Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Best foot forward huh. Be it breast, nice legs, a good build, your car, you know how to have fun, whatever. I wouldn't do a shirtless picture.....it is just too obvious. But I'd absolutely have pics of me in fitted clothing (nothing skin tight, not my little 10 year old brothers shirt......I don't do that **** because again it is too obvious and I don't have a brother anyway). Maybe get one of those calculators with 1000 buttons and a picture of you punching in the digits....number crunching and stuff, ****ing Einstein. Or how about an action photo of trying to cook some fancy meal in the kitchen, but you burn that **** by accident, some funny caption and now you've shown humor and a willingness to cook and obviously you need a woman because you're burning things. If I had a picture of me and my car, the car will be in pieces because I was working on it, grease stained and bloody knuckles. I dunno what it is, but the few occasions I had where I help some chick out fixing whatever for her and I get cuts on my hands because of the tight access....they always stare fixated on my bloody knuckles. Yep, bloody knuckles, holding a hammer to change out the spark plugs.
Author Babolat Posted August 13, 2013 Author Posted August 13, 2013 Well, when I did OLD 1.5+ years ago, I never posed for a pic just for my profile; that would feel strange to me. All of mine were past pics of me. No other comments from the LS audience?
MidwestUSA Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 When I was doing it, I automatically ruled out guys who used a shirtless pic, or one with a beer in hand. Also if they had a female on their arm (even if it may have been a daughter). The ones who used their high school graduation pic were crossed off the list as well, LOL! (The guy with the intro "Cum on over to my place" went in the discard bin as well! 2

Hmmm, in one of my photos I was at a festival, and I did have a draft beer in my hand..I was trying to show that I like to go to festivals...wonder if the beer would imply I drink a lot, as I don't, 3-4 beers is usually my max.

No, no. As long as it's not your main pic. I'm talkin' more about the frat boy pose. nothing wrong with someone seeing that you do have a little fun.
SugarLips72 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I post a few selfies taken in my car because its often when I am made up and going out and looking my best. I pay close attention to looks and what they are doing in the pics too. As long as they are not being totally stupid in the pics (drunk, grabbing a womans boobs) then what they are doing does not phase me.
henderson14 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Selfies are lame! Don't people have friends to take pictures with? Its creepy when someone has all selfies on an online dating site!
hppr Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Well, when I did OLD 1.5+ years ago, I never posed for a pic just for my profile; that would feel strange to me. All of mine were past pics of me. No other comments from the LS audience? When I did it I had to pose for pics because I literally had none of myself. It's not that I don't have a life I just don't bother to take pics. If I go some place with friends I never bother to bring a camera and document it. Hell I've been to foreign countries and didn't take a single pic of anything. So yeah I had lots of 'selfies' when I dated online. It's just a necessity unless you are a camera whore who maintains photo albums or can't pull away from Failbook. 1

When I dated online the number of responses I got went up tremendously when I had shirtless pics and beer drinking pics. Posing with hot girls is great too. You have to look like a confident guy who is fun to be with and can get good looking women. The regular, solid, mellow guy who is bookish is always the second-place choice. As far as ruling out women over their pics I had a few things I looked for but generally I didn't care. As long as she was in decent shape and not a derelict I messaged them.

Probably a generational thing, I don't doubt you at all (I'm 51, and don't need to see skin that old!)
SoaringPhenix Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 Probably a generational thing, I don't doubt you at all (I'm 51, and don't need to see skin that old!) I don't think it's a generational thing. Probably more of what someone is looking for. I'm 35. I don't mind shirtless if it fits with the pic. Like a pic of them at the beach. But if it's a selfie in the bathroom mirror I find it a turn off. Lots of party pics or pics with girls/women = not interested. I'm not interested in someone who parties all the time. I like to see pics of guys being themselves ad doing things they are interested in. 1
SugarLips72 Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I have tons of pics with friends but I usually crop them out. I don't think my friends want to be on a dating site. And shirtless pics in profiles are douchey especially as a profile pic, or no face shot but the shirtless one. Douchey and that indicates the guy just wants to get laid. 2
nescafe1982 Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 When I was OLD I avoided guys with skin pics, and I was most likely to message guys who had pics clearly showing their hobbies, interests, etc. Preferably with a caption that explains the interest. There was one guy I messaged purely because he had a pic of him sitting on a motorcycle/dirtbike. Now, I've never ridden one of those and don't know why I thought that was so cool at the time... but it gave me something to mention/ask about when I sent that initial message. I met my current SO on OLD; his photos were all from cool places he'd traveled to. Made for interesting conversation fodder. 1
TB Rhine Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I don't much care for pics with multiple people (especially same-gender folks), as you can't necessarily tell which is the one posting the profile. And yet, I've seen chicks on OkC where every pic was taken with friends.
CrystalCastles Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 What's with the guys posting pics of JUST their abs? I'm not planning on dating a 6 pack, I'm planning on dating an actual GUY. WTF. Please don't do that, if you're wanting to post pics. 1
D-Lish Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 The worst offence for guy's pics are: Shirtless bathroom mirror pics (creepy) Pics with other women (insecure). I would never, ever answer a message from a guy posting profile pics like that. It just reeks of insecurity and douchebaggery. If a guy has to pretend that he's a hot commodity by posting a pic of himself with other women- he's not confident enough to believe he can attract a woman on his own. Biggest turn off ever... 3
FitChick Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I have some great pix of me with an ex taken at a party. He is holding me so closely that some part of him would still be visible even if I cropped the photos, dammit.
FitChick Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 What's with the guys posting pics of JUST their abs? There is no way of knowing whose abs they really belong to.
hppr Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 Probably a generational thing, I don't doubt you at all (I'm 51, and don't need to see skin that old!) LOL I was 29 when I had that online dating adventure so probably. But then again there were plenty of women in their 40s and 50s emailing me too. I think it has to do with being online where they figure none of their friends will hear about it.
SugarLips72 Posted August 15, 2013 Posted August 15, 2013 I agree. Group photos where the poster has not identified which one they are, are annoying and I skip right over them. How hard is it to caption which one you are? I don't much care for pics with multiple people (especially same-gender folks), as you can't necessarily tell which is the one posting the profile. And yet, I've seen chicks on OkC where every pic was taken with friends.

Avoid having all your pictures that have you wearing any hat or sunglasses. I want to see hair and eyes. Shirtless pics are okay in my opinion if you are swimming or boating. I also avoid men who have pics with women and no caption. Just saw one pic where the caption was, "me with a certain famous guy".. I have no clue who the famous guy is.

When I was doing the OLD a year ago, any person that had the lame iphone/mirror pic was automatically checked off. Really. With all the apps out there, you're that lazy to setup a nice timer self pic if need be?

We had been on the boat for 10+ hours making a loooong trup; it's part of my life so I wanted people to see that. It was my only hat photo theough, and I agrre with you on the hats. When I changed to the hat pic, my email counts and hits went WAY up though!
