Why do people act like the friendzone is permanent?

Most guys do not have many options as far as dating. There is much talk on this forum about an 80/20 rule (20% of men sleep with 80% of women).

 

I first heard it on here, then did some research and found it to be true, based on statistics.

 

So say, if a very high tier woman goes after a lower tier man (not one of the 20%), could she be able to get him?

 

Statistics like these seem so cut and dry. But I tend to overcomplicate things so perhaps this is all simpler than I think.
