This is in the UK but it's probably going on in the US as well. "Has anyone ever told you that you look just like Michelle Pfeiffer?"

That's hardly news. It's probably way more rampant here in the States than in the UK, but more with pics than with profiles.

It's pretty common for OLDS operators to trade collections of women's photos among each other like boys trading baseball cards.

If some of the pics start getting too well known, the operators will get rid of them and pay college girls a few bucks each to pose for a series of brand new photos to keep the cash rolling in.

Go to Google...type Google Image Search. Its a program you can add into your browser....

Right click on any photo on any site....it will search the internet for that image.

So...lets say someone made a fake profile, saying they are a 25 yr old woman from New York. Use the image search.....and it takes you to a website of a woman that is the real 30 yr old teacher from Ohio with that picture on her social media page.

I posted that info on the forums on Plenty of Fish....informing them I found a ton of fake pics and profiles.....They banned me the next day.

Free sites...pay sites....all dating sites have a TON of fake profiles and pics.

I only use the free sites, and use them pretty sparingly. Signing up for free membership on the sites that require you to register to read and send email was enlightening to say the least. I think that it was match where I signed up for a free account and was immediately deluged with messages (that I couldn't read without joining their premium service) from model quality girls in their twenties. Not being a complete moron and having only put up a bare bones profile with no pictures it was pretty obvious that they were spam intended to get me to pay for the service- at which point I would be able to read them. I do kind of wonder what was in the messages- but they were obviously being sent from fake profiles. I can't imagine anyone (mail or female) getting the amount of responses I did with no pictures posted and little more than an age and screen name in their profile.

If someone put their own image in Google, I wonder if they'd see it come up under a different name. Then I wonder if you could sue the website or get a cash settlement.

I searched for a couple of photos from my profile and all that came up were a dozen or so similar photos of other women with similar coloring and clothes. I guess that is a good thing. I think my age works in my favor for these types of scams as they are probably fishing for younger fry.

Yes....the program will try to find something as similar as your photo. And as long as it doesnt find a match....you are usually OK.

But on dating sites....when you see that 1 pic on a profile...and it just looks too good....those have been the ones that end up being stolen from some website somewhere.

Question is.....is it the site making fake profiles to drum up business....or are these individual real people....just trolling with fake pics??

I found it funny that POF banned me when I brought it up ;)
