I have a problem with my husband. In my opinion health is directly connected to nutrition and prevention is the best option. He makes me doubt that by constantly ignoring my remarks about food safety. He says that everything is poison, so he shouldn't pay attention to what he is eating at all. I think this is ignorance, but he claims that I am wrong and the science is wrong. He doesn't accept any logical reasoning, just gets irritated and doesn't want to talk about it. So I cannot say to him anything about aspartame, saccharin, aluminum and things like that.

His eating habits are terrible, he doesn't like any dairy and many other products, saying it's weird. That must be one of the reasons he's got kidney stones. Beer drinking and smoking are two other things that I cannot argue about. I guess I can let him screw up his health if he persists. But what I don't want is to degrade to his level, because bad habits are contageous. Is there anybody thinking like I do? I need some moral support.

Hi Lucia,

Yes I agree with you - I am sure most people would. I think there was a documentary or movie about a guy who lived off MacDonalds for a few months - after that, he was diagnosed with all sorts of problems. Once he stopped, his health returned back to normal.

If your husband is like that, than its best not to talk to him about this subject - its only going to end in fruitless arguments and both of you feeling bad. Let him eat what he wants, but that doesn't mean you have to copy him. If you really believe in what you are saying, you won't copy him. If you feel the need to discuss nutrition, come online,(instead of talking to your husband). You will find plenty of support here and in other forums on the internet.

As long as your husband "feels good" you are wasting your breath.

I am a 41 year old man.

Up until about 4 years ago I NEVER watched what I ate & never exercised. Once I got into my 30's my weight was up to 280 pounds (I'm 6 foot 3 in.)

I always thought I "felt healthy" but I was fooling myself. I went to a doctor for a full physical and found out that my cholesterol was sky high.

I changed my eating habits and began moderate exercise and got down to 220 pounds. Then I really felt great. I had 100x more energy without all that weight on me.

I did however gain some weight back but am currently working on losing it again. I am around 247 pounds today.

Your husband has got to want to change, hopeful it will be before it's too late.

well if your hubby is like me...The nagging will only drive him to do what ever you are nagging about more, be it more drinking and smoking, or more bad eating.

Food is a VERY sensative issue, some people just do not realize. what you choose to eat kinda shows how you think in general, so critising that choice that other make is a direct critisim to them.

I know this is very irritating. It is for me as well. Fitness and good nutrition are things that I strive to do my best at because I enjoy the benefits. However, my hubby thinks I'm going crazy, "have issues" and am obsessed with it. I would appreciate it if he loved me for me as well as my passions. He eats crap and tries to even make me cook crap like fried chicken and rice with butter in it and it pisses me off. What I have started doing is not buying unhealthy stuff like that to have at all and trick him into eating healthy by not telling him what I've put into foods that tastes so good. Maybe he'll come around one day and realize what he's doing to himself before he's on a hospital bed or sumthin. Be patient and if all else fails, just ignore him and he'll feel less threatened to give healthy eating a try.

I tried more than once to give him good food. The result was - he refused to eat and went to sleep hungry, his food, that I spent time cooking was thrown in a trashcan. After this I am not cooking unless I agree with him on what and how much he is going to eat.

i would quit cooking for him specifically, cook your food, if he wants to eat it fine, if not he can coook for himself while you are at spin class.
