I'm sure a lot of you are just like me, in this same weight loss boat, in this weight obsessed society we live in. Anyway, here's the scoop on me. I'm 21 years old, and I weigh about 140lbs. I'm 5'3 and in a size 6. I'm sure some of you are thinking "Yikes!!"... yeah, me too. I've tried everything! The stupid Cortislim diet pills and other brands, lots of excersize, eating less and healthier... and honestly, nothing is taking any weight off. Nothing!!! I was a gymnast for 11 years, and my last year of gymnastics, 4 years ago, I weighed about 135lbs, I worked out 25 hours a week and ate like a normal human should. I know I still have a lot of muscle weight on me, and that muscle weighs more than fat and yadda yadda yadda. But this is driving me crazy!

Does anyone have any advice for me? Because each day I lose more and more self esteem because I can't lose this darn weight!

okay well i imagine the only weight you'd possibly want to lose is bodyfat, YOU NEVER WANT TO LOSE MUSCLE :D, muscle is what gives you shape etc. If you've already got a decent muscle base thats great, the more muscle you have the easier it is to lose bodyfat and trim down. Basically what you need to do is weight training (girls dont get giant veiny biceps like a man, it just doesnt happen okay so no freaking out) cardio like running and stuff and a proper diet.

What i mean by a proper diet is something you can live on for the rest of your life, short term changes for your diet are a waste of time, and that goes for anyone reading this, because as soon as you go off the healthy diet you put back on weight no?.

1. cut out sodas, cordials including fake fruit juice, junk food, lollies, artificial sugars, chips, chocolate

things high in saturated fat, the human body doesnt need saturated fats, however we still need to consume normal unsaturated fats to remain healthy so keep some of those in there. (fat needed for fat soluable vitamins).

2. Try to eat more vegtables for lunch and anytime afterwards.

3. try to eat more fruit before lunch time.

4. Space you meals out so you have 5-6 small meals a day

5. Try to get in 8 glasses of water a day

exercise

1.Try getting to the gym say 2 times a week to do weight training, this will keep you strong and healthy looking.

2.Try doing cardio sessions 3 times a week, not on the same day as the gym though. If you put in enough effort 30 minutes is enough.

I hope that helps a bit, those are just a few tips to get you started or to identify anything your doing wrong. For further information try http://www.discussfitness.com, i recommend you look into improving your diet as the saying goes "abs are a made in the kitchen not the gym"

When I read your post, the last thing I thought was "Yikes." I was actually thinking "Yikes" because in your e-mail you made it seem as if being 5'3" and 140 lbs was positively obese, which it isn't! At 5'3" and 140 lbs your BMI (body mass index) is 24.7--within the healthy range. Anything below 25 is considered a normal, healthy weight. If you do have a higher muscle mass than most people, that number is even healthier still, as BMI is notoriously inaccurate for more athletic folks.

Okay, that said, I can understand where you're coming from! I'm 5'6" and 153 lbs. Also a BMI of 24.7, oddly enough. I've been trying to lose 5-10 lbs. for quite a while, with a lot of cardio exercise, and no luck. However, I've recently returned to weight training and I'm finally seeing the scale inch down. (I used to be 155.) I'll be happy at 140-145, if I can get there. If not, I'll simply focus on being healthy.

My best advice: Ignore the scale. After that, I agree with the previous comment. Start a sensible weight training program 2-3x a week, in addition to regular cardio workouts.

You're a healthy weight, so it's all about what's cosmetically acceptable to you. You and I both, I think, need to up our muscle mass, continue our cardio, and above all, forget the "Yikes!"
