tomtheman1234 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Long story short. I am a 37 year old man from the UK. over the last few days it has got very very hot which is not like the UK summer at all. Any how I joined a dating site and have a casual date tonight. We are just meeting up for a drink in the pub in Richmond in London. I am a casual dresser. I dress like a sort of student festival goer surfer skate boarder. Even as it is really hot I have been told to wear smart jeans and a smart shirt and I can not wear shorts even in this hot weather. Is this right?
white Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 No man. Go in whatever you're comfortable in. Concessions have to be made to the nature of reality. Right now it's hot enough to fry eggs on the pavement. If I was your date I'd think you were retarded turning up in jeans and your best shirt while you sweat like a pig. 1
anne1707 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 And I would think a man had not made an effort if he turned up wearing shorts. Have you got some light weight jeans style trousers?
Author tomtheman1234 Posted July 14, 2013 Author Posted July 14, 2013 (edited) No I have not got any light wight jeans as next week or the week after it will be cool again. UK weather sucks and we never get much hot summer weather. I have an outfit to wear I have smart jeans and and white shirt with dark green checks on it and will roll the sleeves up and wear plimsolls. When I lived in Sydney Australia in the summer you could get away with wearing shorts on a first date. Edited July 14, 2013 by tomtheman1234
anne1707 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I am in the UK too so I know what you mean about the weather Your outfit sounds good to me. I think shorts could work on some first dates but from the perspective of a woman, she will probably be stressing about what to wear so if you turn up showing you too have made an effort, she will like that. I also think age comes into it and I am assuming your date is in her 30s too. Choice of clothes that are appropriate does shift with age.

This was the first thought I had when the OP said "student festival goer surfer skate boarder". There comes a time in your life where you just look too old for this kind of thing (certainly on a first date, anyway), and 37 is probably past that time. But that's just my opinion, I'm sure some will disagree
seahawker64 Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 Here's my standard uni for this type of thing no matter what the weather is. I live in Seattle and we have hot summer's. A nice pair of designer jeans. ( No Levis ) casual shoe's like Sketcher's or something that say's you don't live in Nike's or sandals. A decent looking silk tee shirt. Black is always a winner but depending on your skin tone it may be different. I always do black though. I'm blond so the black works with hair color.
Shepp Posted July 14, 2013 Posted July 14, 2013 I would normally always go nice jeans and a nice checked shirt but... I live in England and yeah, this it is crazyyy hot right now like seriously! If your meeting in the evening I still think jeans are best but if its still really hot and it is where I am right now and its what 9.30 then I don't think theres anything wrong with shorts - its not like we get this weather all the time and it shes a British girl then I think she'd deffo understand that (maybe people from countries where its hot a lot wouldn't get that). If I was going on a date tonight I would seriously crack out my best beige shorts, checked shirt (big fan of checks ) and sunglasses! Your going for drinks not a formal dinner - you can sit outside. Best of luck buddy!

Yeah literally - I think you might stand out more in jeans right now!
