I am on a dating site. And I recently added their app to my phone. On the app....there is a section where they basically give you a Rolodex of pics of local women, which you swipe through. If you swipe left you dont like them, if you swipe right, you do like them. If you and that person happen to both like each others pics....it sends both of you a message stating a mutual match has occurred.

So since I've been on the site, I have never got 1 reply from anyone I messaged, and never got a mutual match on the swipe screen. But earlier this week...I took a 1 day trip down near Washington DC to visit a museum. When I got home later that night, I went on the dating app to see if I got any messages. I went to the swipe screen...and I started browsing through the pictures. But wait...something didnt seem right...there were actually very attractive women on it, much more attractive than I was used to seeing. I started marking pics that I liked...and boom mutual match...I mark another pic, boom another mutual match. All together 6 mutual matches...from women that liked my pic and I liked theirs.

But then reality set in....guess what? I then realized that my phone had auto located my location, when I was near DC. All those women thought I was local to them on the swipe screen. I was in their area for less than 12 hours....and I got 6 mutual matches. Without even lifting a finger on my part. How in the F*** does EVERY woman in Ohio ignore me when I email them....yet I spend half a day in DC and 6 women have an interest in me??

I dont know if it irritates me or if I should just laugh at it, because I knew it all along. I dont know what is wrong with many of the single women in NE Ohio.....but they obviously have severe unrealistic standards, on what they see as a potential date.

Not to mention....that I know a handful of people, that have moved to this area from other states. And they have all said what total aholes many of the people are here. Too stuck up and too good for anyone but themselves

Ohio sucks this is not news.

And yes I know exactly what you are talking about there have been places where I simply couldn't date no matter what I did. The town I grew up in was like that, the pickings were slim to none and most people married after high school graduation (small town). However when I moved to a big town dating became a bit easier.

I have seen a similar phenomenon in Western Pennsylvania near Ohio.

Ohio definitely sucks

I cant even get any friendly chit chat out of the local women on the dating site. Women an hour away in Pittsburgh love talking to me....even if we have no interest in each other...its a mutual conversation about dating, bitching about online dating, her stories about bad dates with guys, my rants about women, etc.... but the women in my area of Ohio....dammm they treat me like I'm a homeless bum, begging them for change as they wait in line at the opera.

There are small-towny areas around there that are hard to get in to. One place I went most of the people I talked to had lived their entire lives there and some of them had never left the town. Like never been more than 20 miles from home, ever. It's very strange. Then there are other places where all the women were prudes and all the men were drunken basketcases or druggies.

I used to live in Cleveland, loved it there. Miss it.

I'm a NE Ohio"er" as well.

Us women are generally not friendly because of the men we come in contact with. I can become rude after hearing their spiel for 3.5 seconds.

I don't date (thankfully!), but many guys I've spoken to in my place of residence tell me Calgary AB is possibly one of the most shallow dating pools out there. A local TV station even confirmed this when they took to the streets asking women their idea of a "perfect man". The overwhelming majority were looking for (in order):

1.Someone who makes at least 100k a year (preferably an out of town Oil job - so they don't have to see the guy that often, just spend his money I assume).

2. Body of an athlete (NOT a sumo wrestler).

and 3. Above average IQ/intelligence.

I just returned from a visit to NE Ohio. I don't know about dating, but it certainly appears to be a ****hole in the personal style / taste department. Mercy.

As a CowTown gal (well, that had to move) - I'll say that list does not represent me, and I'm sure it doesn't represent most people - just the teenagers that were asked.

I used to live in Ohio. I wouldn't call it stuck up...there's a small town mentality in a lot of places there. The people in some areas tend to be pretty close minded, with a few exceptions. Those few exceptions aren't usually on the dating sites, because they've discovered that the pickings are kinda slim. And the few that are, tend to be attractive young people who think they live in LA or something. It's kind of funny sometimes to walk around here.

That is very true. Definitely close minded and stuck in the past. Takes a long time for people to adapt to any kind of change in this area.

Yes...I agree.

But I wouldnt consider Cleveland to be a part of NE Ohio. North central perhaps? Large metro areas tend to have a lot of friendly women from my experience. Same with Akron, Canton, Columbus. Its usually the pockets in between all those big cities that contain the people with inferiority complexes.
