JustAReformedGirl Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 You know, I've never really given it much thought... I don't think it would necessarily be a deal breaker for me, but it definitely would lessen some of the bonding. By nature, I like to laugh at things; a lot. I have a wide taste for humour, which makes it easier. I can click with a lot of people because of this. My sense of humour ranges from corny to dirty, sarcastic to playful, dark to dry and deadpan. Come to think of it, maybe that's why it hasn't been much of an issue for me, lol. I'm adaptable. 1
Author MrCastle Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 How do some people not find this hysterical?
miss_jaclynrae Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 How do some people not find this hysterical? Louis CK is the best! 1
fortyninethousand322 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Yes Yes, for several years. The guy was obsessed with Alf and on our 2nd or 3rd date, I found a poster of Alf in his back seat. That def threw me for a loop. You mean the Alf? Alien Life Form? That show was hilarious!
USMCHokie Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 What are your thoughts on one's breadth of appreciation for different kinds of humor? I've noticed that some people have a focused range of things they find funny, as well as a range of things they refuse to find funny. Is there a value to being able to find and appreciate humor in all things? 1
fortyninethousand322 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 A couple examples of witty and funny. It's the historical dynamics between individuals and what's left unsaid that makes these funny. The Frasier clip was funny. I've always liked Frasier. The Northern Exposure one: meh. Did nothing for me.
fortyninethousand322 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Preferably, I would hope humor is something I could share with someone I'm dating. Or at least that we could respect each other's humor. Personally, I find something like this hilarious.
Divasu Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 You mean the Alf? Alien Life Form? That show was hilarious! Yes... Funny as some would find that show, I just found it initially odd that a grown man had toy figurines and posters of Alf. I could probably do an armchair analysis looking back on the relationship in relation to Alf, but, I shan't! 1
Divasu Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) How do some people not find this hysterical? That is funny just because sometimes, I wish murder was legal. CutewithChris cracks me up, but, he's not very popular main stream: Edited July 6, 2013 by Divasu
It-is-what-it-is. Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I don't think a couple need to have the exact same taste in tv, movies and music however I do think sharing the same humor is similar to being of similar intelligence. My husband loves obscure jazz and he can find Adele tiresome but most of the time those differences allow us to expand our horizons. Humor is different... our family rarely have conversations that do not have some snarky; pop culture reference; tv/movie quote; historical familial reminder of stupidity; it would be hard for someone without at least the ability to appreciate that to successfully integrate....it would have to be some pretty awesome nookie to overlook that.
tbf Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 All I needed to do was look at the names of the links and I already knew I would find it boring. As I said, proof why having the same humor is so important! The Northern Exposure one: meh. Did nothing for me.Bah, you two don't understand denial embedded in honesty. Their denial, honesty/dishonesty, sexual tension dynamics is hilarious! Unrelenting skirting and sashaying around that ginormous pink elephant! I like Frasier too, hilarioussssss. The Frasier clip was funny. I've always liked Frasier. The first season was the best and then it tapered off. Frasier and his brother are quick wits who have more defense and coping mechanisms than anyone alive could ever have, without building a castle moat around them.
MomsSpaghetti Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Sense of humor is way overrated. A good-looking guy with a mediocre sense of humor will be perceived as "funny," whereas an ugly guy would have to be a world-famous comedian for women to consider him funny. 1
sweetkiwi Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Humor is incredibly important. I am always cracking jokes and love a man who can make me laugh. Humor is sexy as hell. 1

When he or his brother would go on those wildly analytical tangents or lose their patience, ohhhhh:laugh: Watching either of them flip out was pure laughter for me. Edited July 6, 2013 by Divasu 1

Frasier = older brother control freak. Niles = younger brother aggressively pushing back, attempting to assert his autonomy by taking over. 1
