Mme. Chaucer Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 There have to be some work environments that are predominantly female... Like Hooters?
SuperGeek Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I don't know if a predominately female environment necessarily produces a higher probability for men to acquire women. Many times, female dominated events are solely for the purpose of avoiding male attention.
Southern Cal Dude Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 No, I'm talking a 10-to-1 ratio of women to men. Like dominated dominated. Closest I've found to that was in Rio. Women come up to you and don't prance around like school girls. I hear Sweden isn't much different.

That's true. I spent some time in Sweden and never once saw any women prancing. The Future Of Exercise Prancercize - YouTube
Author one goal Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 I didn't see her working today but she must have got off work because she was sitting with a friend riding the exercise bike while I was nearby on the treadmill. She looked really hot because she was in tight gym clothes and I kept looking at her a lot checking her out. She looked back towards me a couple times so she probably saw me checking her out but she was working out with a friend the whole time and it would have been awkward going up and start hitting on her. Man I had a hard on. I was the only one in the area on the treadmill so she must have caught me checking her out because no one else was around me.
USMCHokie Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Like Hooters? Perhaps if you're a manager or bartender at Hooters. Or even being a bartender at a restaurant where the majority of servers are female can be advantageous. I speculate based on observation that certain company departments like Human Resources would have a larger percentage of women. I don't know if a predominately female environment necessarily produces a higher probability for men to acquire women. Many times, female dominated events are solely for the purpose of avoiding male attention. I only extrapolate based on my experience in the military, where men far outnumber women. I presume that if the ratios were reversed, the same phenomenon would occur.
TheZebra Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I work in a male dominated environment (finance) and I'd say my chances of finding a guy are worse than if I worked in another industry with a more equal ratio. 1
krz12 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I see lots of pretty looking women at my gym. Problem is I never see girls really talk to strangers at the gym. It's like their defensive radar is on full alert and they don't like guys staring at them. I see large amounts of girls there and yet I don't have any shot with them. Same thing with school. The girls don't like me there. Still didn't make any girl friends at my school once again this past year. Depends. If they are wearing 3 inch shorts or anything showing stomach/bra, they know full well that they are being stared at.
Phoe Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I work in a male dominated environment (finance) and I'd say my chances of finding a guy are worse than if I worked in another industry with a more equal ratio. I agree, I work in a male dominated environment and it has done nothing to help my chances. If I worked with more females I'd have more opportunity to gain more female friends, which could be beneficial to me. I don't think a man working in a female dominated environment would be any better off, tbh.

Because the male would be scared to get fired for sexual harassment and in this economy jobs are almost impossible to find. Women scream sexual harassment at work all the time when guys show interest. The media tells them to.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that... let me guess, you're also one of those people who think that everyone on welfare purposely has 5 kids just to get more deductions right? Gotta love making assumptions about 3 billion people because of a few bad apples... that's LS for ya.

True that keeping one's job secure is of utmost priority, but if you know a girl reasonably well and have a certain level of comfort or friendship with her, it's not likely she'd make a scene over it.I suppose it just takes a very specific scenario. Approaching a woman at work who you don't know well would be quite risky! In any case... I still agree keeping the job safe is more important

Like you're the only woman in an office of 50 men...? I don't think a man working in a female dominated environment would be any better off, tbh. Yea, I've always wondered. In my short career so far, I've only had to work with one woman, which happened to be earlier this year. But no one liked her; not because she was a woman, but because she was batsh*t crazy. But I'd be curious to see what it'd be like if the ratios were reversed.

There's another department that is mostly female dominated and I hear horror stories about the drama and gossip that runs rampant there =/
Southern Cal Dude Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I worked at a beauty salon full of women when I was 18. It wasn't bad for me because quite a few of them had daughters, nieces, or younger sisters who were around my age. But your best bet is probably where it's close to an even ratio.

Phoe Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Do the guys hit on you a lot? Not at all! Most of them are either happily taken or married, very respectful and keep things on a totally normal platonically friendly level.

Perhaps it's different given the nature of men versus the nature of women. In my field, women are never in short supply of male attention. But a lot of them are in their early to mid 20's.

But a lot of them are in their early to mid 20's. That's because there were very few of them. Just like when I was one of the few males, there's a lot of the opposite sex fighting over the very few of you.

Well that's what I'm saying when I talk about being in an opposite-gender dominated environment. By sheer numbers alone, you stand a better chance, right...?

By sheer numbers alone, you stand a better chance, right...? Sure, when looking just at the numbers, it SEEMS like a better chance, but with so many other outside factors the reality is that it doesn't really make a difference most of the time.

Yea being honest when people say its better to be out numbered by your opposite sex, it doesn't mean anything. Numbers don't mean a thing in REAL life.
USMCHokie Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 I'd hit on you if I worked with you. Incredibly smooth, my friend, incredibly smooth... 1
