What is ideal height for a man?

Recommended Posts

I was just wondering. I'm six foot even and I was wondering if that was tall enough. In shoes I might be 6' 1. I guess everyone has different "height standards" but I wanted to see if there was a general common ground.

I think 6' is the magic number that grants you passage into the land of milk and honey. That is, the difference between 5'11" and 6' is much greater than the difference between 6' and 6'1". But the actual number matters more for online dating than real life.

Ideal height for a man will depend on the woman.

For me, these days it's about 6'1.75" :)

I think no one would complain if you were 6 feet. Well unless she's taller than 6 feet.

I'd say I'm on the shorter side but there's nothing I can do about it... Better off trying to get in shape, buying better clothes, and making more money.

5'11 or taller. I mean, I'm 5'4 so frankly anything about 5'5 is "ideal" for me but...

Where I live...the height of the woman has nothing to do with it. ALL the women want a guy at least 6ft or taller. And the funny thing is....its the shorter women that are more adamant about it.

So if you take the taller guys, and pair them up with shorter women....what does that leave us? It leaves us with shorter guys, and taller women....and thats pretty much a nail in the coffin for that combination.

But I realize I live in an ass-backwards town...so none of this is new to me

A few inches taller than me. I don't want a guy that is shorter than me or much taller than me. I like us to have no more than a 5ish inch difference preferable. So a guy 5'7 to 6 feet.

6'0"-6'2". Over 6'2" and you're getting to be too tall. I'm 6'4" and I'd gladly trade 2 inches for 15-20 pounds.

For me it's 5'11" because I can wear 3 inch heels and be at eye level. 5'10" wouldn't be too bad -- just wear lower heels or flats. I'm not into stilettos anyway.

Yes, your height is fine. You don't have anything to worry about height-wise. Although, as people age, they do get a little shorter every year. I think most people shrink several inches during their lifetime, but you'll still be plenty tall as time goes by.

Everyone has their individual preferences, but generally speaking it's good if the man is anywhere from half-a-head to a full head taller than the woman...i.e. 5 to 10 inches. That way you're still a little taller than she is when she's wearing heels. And it's of course good if the guy's a bit bigger than the woman. The guy tends to feel more masculine and the woman tends to feel more feminine. Plus you two are more likely to look good together as a couple in the eyes of other people (although it's silly to even care about that).

Average to above-average height is fine...e.g. 5'9"/5'10" (average) to 6'2" (above average).

Being 5'10" a man 6'3" would be ideal, but nope! My guy is 6' haha!

I don't think there is an ideal Sugar, but generally we like the guy to be taller. But again this is not a hard and fast rule. We tend to fall in love with the guy, not his basic stats.

I'm 5'1, I guess most guys I date tend to range a couple of inches either side of around 5'10-11. I think this has more to do with average population height than preference though.

Actually, there was some study done and 6'4 was the cutoff for men. Anything other than that was too tall. Most women prefer men in the 6'1-6'2 range.

I am 5'7", and I am okay with anything 5'6" and over. I generally fall in love with "the guy", not his height.

I periodically run into my ex-husband- and I'm always struck by the fact that he's shorter than I am. As weird as it sounds, I didn't notice he was a little shorter than me when we were together for 10 years because I was so smitten with him that his height never registered as relevant.

Either that or he used to wear heels.

6'4" is the tallest you can be before entering freak territory. In modeling, most clothes are meant for guys in the 5'11"-6'2" range. Most male runway models are 6'0"-6'1". Most things in life aren't meant for people over 6'2". Finding clothes(especially jeans), leg room in cars and planes, beds. Being 6'4" isn't all it's cracked up to be.

That's interesting that you say that because my friend's uncle shrank by 2.5 inches in a span of 10 years. Then again, he was a heroin junkie for a lot of his life and I've heard that drug use can shrink a person.

I can imagine. I know a guy who is 6'7. He is a giant among us. He says he hasn't met anyone taller than him and he says that it sucks having to duck when entering a door and having small beds when he sleeps in someone else's house. He also doesn't have many shoes because his feet are freakishly large and he can only find certain shoes in certain sizes.

Ryan,

I am about the same height as you. I don't think there is a ideal height for a guy because, I can't come up for a ideal height for a woman.

As with most physical things with humans, not deviating too far from average seems like a good bet.

So what is an ideal range? In the US average height for a male is 5'9" so a few inches below or a few inches above would seem to be the answer.

I don't know if you are self-conscious about your height or not, but before joining LS, I never thought much about my height. This place has a way of making people question things that they never questioned before.

Feelin Frisky

I'm 6'-3"--(measured last week at my doctor's at 57 years of age). I always considered my heigh an advantage. However a year or so after I graduated high school I dug this blond named Jenine. She was such a fox and tall. She wanted nothing to do with me but went gaga for my brother who is 5'-9"--and at the time had scraggly hair long on one side and short on the other and wore white tape to hold his eye-glasses together which were crooked anyway as shi+. I was beyond incredulous. Then my bother tells me Jenine just made out with him. I was like get the f-- out of here man, wtf and every other head-spinning reaction you could think of. My brother was so doofy-looking I didn't even want him sitting next to me on the bus or acting like he knew me in school. Who knew?

6'2" is ideal, hands down! But anything between 5'11" and 6'3" is great height to me.

1 inch out of the range.

I sure wouldn't kick you out of bed for that ;)

Doubt anyone would be kicking me out of bed for being 6'4". :p They might kick me out of bed since I only weigh 180.

I'd say 6 feet. That said, height in a man is almost completely unimportant to me, although I do prefer men with broad frames. My only concern is that he not object to my wearing heels even if it makes me taller. Although even that is not the end of the world -- flats are fine.
