I've been dating a woman for 2 months and recently I met her sister and brother-in-law. I have a job that gives me access to background investigations. About a month ago, I shared with the woman I'm dating that I've had issues in the past where someone I dated went through my mail and tried to get access to my credit card statements to see if I was cheating on her. When I told the woman I'm dating (I'll call her my girlfriend) the story, I said I could not be in that type of relationship again. Which I cannot be. I felt so violated. Well, after meeting my girlfriend's sister and brother-in-law, I learned that they have a concern that I have performed a background check on my girlfriend. Now my girlfriend is asking me if I've performed a background check on her. I told her I did not (and I haven't) but she asked me again and asked how can she tell if I'm telling the truth or not. Is it time to get out of this relationship? If her family can influence her to doubt what I'm saying so quickly, what role will they play in other issues?
