Meh, I don't think you have to be an idiot, or pathetic, to want to have a casual fling with this guy - plenty of people have had rolls in the hay with strangers they didn't consider relationship material and don't feel the need to beat themselves up about it. You are investing too much of your thoughts into what the situation is; let him be the one to step up to the plate and initiate any further meetups. For now, he's merely texting with you, not making definite plans for you to come spend time with him.

You dont even need to be a star. Being a broke musician who isnt even that good can still get you women. I remember I played a gig when I was starting out with my old band back in my college town a couple years back. Some girl I barely knew came up and hugged me after and told me how great we did.

 

We really didnt do that well, we were still very rusty, and I cant even remember if I had met her before that moment. Either way I got her number and we talked some after that. Didnt go anywhere as I was casually dating someone else at the time. But yeah...you dont have to be a star for some gals to take interest.

I remember reading somewhere if you go to a mall or a similar place with a guitar(even if you don't know how to play), you'll be more successful with women.

This works on guys too. Even ten fold. Just look at how guys react on youtube to any decently pretty girl playing a guitar, bass, or drums. They all wanna marry her and think shes too awesome. Im a musician and I feel musician chicks are pretty damn cool.

 

Given how much rarer female musicians are compared to male musicians, Id def say the affect is greater. You should see how guys react to certain bands female musician players. Its on a different level to the typical female vocalist front woman.

Wow, what a sensitive topic for me! My last gf use to party with AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Whitesanke, you name it, all the 80s heavy metal bands.

 

She told me she would go backstage with them, go to their hotels, they would call her in advance, get a room full of liquor, tell her to come with all her gfs...she said she was kind of a celebrity as everyone wanted to party with her so they could meet them.

 

She told me she never had sex with them, that she just liked to talk with them, that they really mostly just wanted to talk. She said all of her gfs screwed them, but not her. I mentioned a particualr band to her and she said "yeah, I met the bass player, a great guy, my gfs screwed him, I did not". And, as she put it, every girl thought they were his girlfriend, for 20 minutes.

 

I tried my best to believe her; it is what it is is though. Mixing drinking, drugs, rock stars, sex in the room, please...things happened.

 

My point: don't be foolish! You are one of thousands, literally. This guy may have been a gentlemen; my guess is that is his "move" to get a girl like you back to the hotel.

Sure fire way to see if this guy actually likes you is to NOT give him sex and talk about intellectual topics. Narcissistic Band boys get PISSED at smart girls because they aren't easy ego supply and intimidate them by removing them from their normal outlet of mindless adoration.

 

Really, band boys are a dime and dozen, very few are actual musicians who want to be artistic, most are in it for money, notoriety and chicks. The only way to tell the difference is by assuring their intellectual capacity.

 

@ sweet kiwi: ever notice that the ones who take it more seriously tend to play lead guitar? For some reason I find the playboys are attracted to the more simple parts. The musicians I know say "the easiest things are drums, base and singers so that's where the ones looking to ride coat tails flock most to".

Clearly youve been talking to guitarists who know nothing about music. Bass and drums are the backbone of almost any band and we are the hardest members to find. Most guys wanna play guitar so they can get the most notoriety and attention. Its actually them who want the fame and money.

 

Most bassists and drummers are fine with the roles their instrument plays in music. Which is to hold a beat, drive the song, and provide life to the music. Being a good bassist take a lot of work. And being a good drummer is easily the hardest of the instruments in a band. Its a full body workout and takes a lot of stamina at times.

 

Any guitarist whos ever said the bass or drums is easy, is someone who Im sure has nothing but elementary skills on those instruments. And speaking of simple....a lot of the more famous bands in history and the present, have guitarists that play very simple guitar parts. A lot of guitarists want the spotlight of being the singer and guitar guy, so they try to do both.

 

And its very hard to play intricate guitar work and sing very well at the same time. Its why so many singer/guitarists write very simple guitar parts so they can focus on singing during a song too. Its rare to find a guitarist like John Mayer for example, who can easily play intricate solos while singing rather well at the same time. It takes a lot of timing and skill.

 

If bassists and drummers were worried about riding coat tails, we would try to sing too. But when youre the backbone of the bands timing, you cant focus much on singing. You gotta keep the band in check. Its why if the bassist or drummer messes up a part, the audience will notice, and usually it messes up other band members too. But if a guitarist or singer messes up, its easily fixed and overlooked by the audience usually.

 

Sorry for being long winded. But almost anyone can see that drummers and bassists are never in the spot light when it comes to a band. So I dunno what your friend was talking about.

There was a singer in our course in Uni who was very famous in Kazakhstan, very pretty and stylish - during one of the band projects, she played bass for her band in the big performance at Christmas - every single guy drooled and one dude was like "ain't that the hottest bassist you've ever seen in your life?" :laugh:

So true! I was friends with a few hyper-smart engineers who quit their high-paying day jobs to be in numerous bands, start sound engineering studios, and the like. These guys were passionate about music and creativity, in committed relationships, and just all-around good guys who clearly weren't in it for attention or validation - they were in it for love

Desperate and pushy might be the only way, realistically. The standard minor celeb WAG generally seems to have a lot of long hair, a great body, spray tan and a hard face that serves them well when things are getting catty. Having that look and being able to elbowing rivals out of the way mercilessly - even (or especially) if the guy is making it obvious that he's more interested in said rivals - while simultaneously shrieking with laughter at the target male's jokes is probably the tried and tested path you should adhere to if you want to get banged by this man. And you'll probably have to travel to him rather than vice versa.

The problem is, the fact that you prefer a quality woman is inconsequnetial since those women have no interest in you anyway. ^Lmao...but when people describe a musician as semi famous, its usually your typical barely making ends meet regional touring band that most folks have never heard of. As I said before, its not hard to get female interest when playing music. A lot of girls will think you are better and more famous than you really are.

 

It is what it is though. If I start up a band in the city again, Im sure I will have girls like OP making things easy for me. But eh, I dont need that. Id rather a girl legitimately think Im hot and want to do me because she really feels it. I dont want some chick who would have ignored me if I wasnt in the band.
