My boyfriend (25/m) has always been very honest with me. We're in a LDR so trust is a huge factor. He never gave me any reason not to trust him. I found a profile with his info, location, age, and recent picture on a casual encounter website (Hard Sugar to be exact). With no other information. It was just under his username for things he normally uses. It said it was joined early May and last logged in early May. So, I knew messaging and seeing wouldn't do any good. I showed him and asked what it was about. He said he had no idea what it was. He didn't create it. That profiles were made of him before, which I did know of, but not for sites like this. So that is true. Fake profiles of his were made before on Myspace and some other weird sites. Not dating sites. He mentions his credit card being stolen which was true. But why would anyone create this? You steal a credit card to buy stuff. Anyway, then he tells me he figured out the password which was indeed "password" and logged in. Meaning the log in date changed to today's date. Pissed off, I said that was shady and really difficult to believe. He said that password is commonly used for making profiles that aren't yours. BUT ALSO! I know he uses the password "password" for non-significant websites like Reddit. Logged in to the profile myself. Obviously it was "password". No messages. I don't know where to go from this point. He never did anything to betray my trust. But why someone would do this doesn't add up. He's saying I don't trust him. I need to. But I actually do trust him. It's just right there and there's no reason why anyone would make this stupid profile. I'm just freaking confused. While this isn't a huge deal and forgivable, I'm supposed to be moving out there this month. I even told him I'd look past it if he was honest and would fly out there to discuss this. Still says it wasn't him. So you can see my dilemma. Advice?

Have you ever heard of the tv show called "Catfish"? http://www.mtv.com/shows/catfish/series.jhtml

Most of the cases are fake profiles on the Internet.

Anyway, it sounds weird that he knew the password for the website... So I would have doubts too.

I guess you don't tell him anything, enter the profiles and check the email addresses used to make up those profiles. That'd be a first sign about whether he's lying or not. If the email address is clearly his, then he's lying. If all the fake profiles have a same email address that you never knew he had, you can have some doubts...

If he has contacts through any profiles, you can start contacting people and get info.

Anyway, if you have no sound proof, you can have doubts, but you can't call him a liar.

Anyway, how did you find that profile of him?

He admitted. Thanks.

It is shady. I don't personally hang out with shady people.

He admitted what?

That a profile on a casual encounter website which he swore up and down he had no knowledge of and had made up an elaborate web of lies to deny, was in fact, created by and belonged to him.
