I use the gym a lot...

I used to use a gym that would be full of men (a real gym). But under circumstances I had to swap gyms, and now find myself at one that's a bit rubbish, and is full of women.

Iv noticed I keep on getting stared at by girls, coy smiles e.t.c. I go to the gym to train (it puts me off my bench press!). Anyways is this a commen thing in these mixed sex gyms that the girls just go there to ogle on us men and our perfectly formed biceps?

On a more serious not, what's the etiquate on picking up girls in the gym? Is it the done thing?

Girls in gyms have great bodies yup. I think I should get to a gym soon. I have a pretty big gut & losing the weight might make me look better but I love to eat :D.

Picking up women, or the desire to change my body for ascetics (look good). Is not the reason I go.

I started weight lifting to improve my strength to help my boxing. Then I quit boxing and got into seeing how strong I could get. The ascetic is just a by product of doing something I love doing.

Get into lifting..... And you can't really eat enough.... Eating and eating is a good thing, providing you eat clean food.

My problem is I'm not a fan of eating and constantly have to force feed myself to get over the next hurdle in my strength quest.

There are quite a few attractive ladies at the gym I am currectly training at..I dont pay attention..Neither do they..Frankly. I hate it when guys chat it up with women at the gym...You can see how uncomfortable they are with it..They are there to work out, not fraternize..Same for me..I dont look sexy when I am grunting and sweating and frankly I dont care..

I particularly hate it when (and I am sorry for typecasting, just calling it as I see it). the 120lb Mexican/Latinos who come to the gym bathed in cheap cologne and do nothing but stare at womens asses while they "work out"...makes me want to walk over and swat them like flies..

I feel for you ladies..I dont know how you deal with it...Inconsiderate jackasses.

Save the social life for the clubs and the net and leave these poor women alone!

I'd say I'm an attractive guy and have made that kind of eye contact/smile with girls at the gym but that being said, I just can't say how you could easily go about picking up girls at the gym. I mean... to me, usually one or both of us have earbuds on and are into our workout. If it's a very serious gym, do you really have a lot of people standing around fraternizing? How lame does it look when you see guys walk up to girls who stop, take out their earbuds, stop their exercise and proceed to small talk? I'd also hate to date more than one woman from a gym where things went bad. After all, it's not like most of us change gyms very often. That being said, I've heard more than a few people talk about "meeting at the gym" so I have no idea how this works. Maybe someone can explain it.

I'm not sure what the proper way to approach a girl at the gym is. I don't think it should be forced or hovering over her while she is working out. Maybe casually bump into her near the drinking fountain or maybe at the free weights say a simple hello. You will know when the time is right. If you want to check out my blog, I wrote an article about picking up girls and how pickup lines are really not helpful. Hope this helped out.

I have noticed women at the gym checking me out whilst working out. They look from my running shoes up to my face. When they realize that i have noticed they quickly turn away. Are they angry, embarrassed, both? I don't understand this behavior.

I think it's just embarrassed.. I check men out at the gym all the time, but I don't get caught lol (I would be totally embarrassed).. I can't help it - they just look so good! I appreciate all their hard work, that's for sure :)

But to answer the etiquette question - I think it'd be OK to strike up a conversation somehow.

The contrast between the three gyms I go to is hilarious. The boxing and weightlifting gyms are social, I know the trainers, coaches, most of the regulars, it's friendly, sometimes chatty, etc. Lots of hard working people getting on with it.

Then there is the 'regular' gym full of peacocks  There was a guy last week who wore his boxing wraps  while using the machines, he was spotted by a mate on the shoulder press :D then he strutted his stuff up and down looking at me. He had no idea that I was in stitches inside trying to keep a straight face :lmao: Those boys crack me up. All pumped arms and no strength.

Meh, you go there to work out like you usually do, then....if an opportunity happens where a woman that meets your fancy likes....I see no issue in asking them out, right?

I get a kick out of people who say, "I don't go <insert place>, to talk to or ask out women, I go there to <insert task>."

It's irrelevant what you're not going there for.
