I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right forum or not, but I always get a lot of good advice off this site so I thought I'd post my own question :)

I'm currently separated, and am going out this weekend to a relatively large function (a local fundraiser) and it will be my first public appearance since being separated. I live in a relatively small town and am fairly well known. I'm going with someone who is also well known but is divorced.

My dilemma is that I was friends with his ex wife who has since moved away. (We went to lunch 1-2x a year and were very friendly but not closer than that) But, a lot of the people there know her too and this will just be a gossip feast for all. Many of the women chose her side, but there are plenty that are indifferent (he cheated on her)the men don't know about it or care. We have only been out a couple times and have been friends for a few years.

Am I a total a-hole for going to this with him or going out with him at all? I can deal with the gossip because I know how this town is, I guess I just wanted an outside opinion.

Then, I have my STBXH to deal with but again, I can handle that, ha!

Thanks for reading!

Well, they all know who he cheated with (not me) so, I'm not really worried about that part. I'm still married on paper and honestly, I'm just bored to tears staying at home so much and want to get out of the house. I appreciate the 'worst case scenario' type feedback. People love gossip, and I guess I better brace myself for it!

Thanks again!

In many countries, in this century, you're allowed to be seen in public with a member of the opposite sex who is neither your spouse nor relative. Really! Give it a try!
