BLS Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I've been going to school with this girl for a while and we've never talked much. I recently decided I wanted to get to know her. Via a mutual friend I went out to lunch with her. This happened a second time. I started a brief facebook chat once or twice in the past week. This last time the conversation was going reasonably well. I told her I had to go, gave her my number and said to text me sometime. She responded with this, "unfortunately i don't have texting (flushed face)... do you have an iphone?" I don't have an iphone but i swear i've seen her texting before (or maybe its the iphone exclusive chat?). I'm not sure if she was lying or not. Advice please!
Tinie Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 No, I don't think so. A guy asked for my number one time in class, but my university is on a mountain and my phone gets no service up there. That's what I said to him, but I could have easily been lying because I didn't want to give him my number. However I was being honest. I wouldn't stop talking to this girl simply because she said she doesn't have texting. That's too much of a minor thing.
Author BLS Posted May 27, 2013 Author Posted May 27, 2013 iOS: Using Messages Forgive my technological ignorance but what exactly does this indicate? Can a person not have texting and have this?

Assuming she's being honest, I have no real problem with her being unable to text message. When she asked if i had an iphone do you think she was proposing an alternative to texting and suggesting the imessage thing?
tbf Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) Can a person not have texting and have this?Yes. Apple to Apple device. (10 characters) Edited May 27, 2013 by tbf
apple OR orange Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 iPhone has "iMessage" which uses the text system, if you have an iPhone then it will send the "text" over the "iMessage" system, they show as Blue chat bubbles on the phone, if it cant get to you over iMessage then it sends it as a SMS (text) then it shows as Green in the phone. iMessage isnt limited to TEXT system, can send images as well (i use it alot) This is why she asked if you have an iPhone, its also free using iMessage as uses the data network not the phone company text system, so she can "text" and not have a "texting" package. This iMessage system will work on any IOS or MAC device, its like Rogers 1 number system.
Eternal Sunshine Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Yes, as others have said, iphones have their own separate text system called imessage. I was very saddened by decline of people texting me since I switched to an android phone because majority of my friends were iphone users who used imessage. Cheapskates
