Col1 Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 (edited) Rather than commuting 70 minutes each way, I will be moving into the city. Rent is very expensive there. So, I will be sharing a 2-bedroom apartment. There are lots of Craigslist ads for people wanting roommates. The ads say to e-mail or text them if interested. Here’s what I’m planning to reply (I will attach a picture of me to the message): "My name is Colin. I’m interested in seeing your place. Here are some details about me: I can move in ASAP. I will pay rent on-time, I can pay the deposit, I can commit long-term. I will not make excuses about delaying rent payments or utilities. I am employed and have emergency savings. I have excellent landlord references. I have my own car and I won’t touch your things. I’m a guy who is healthy, mentally stable, and physically fit. I have no criminal record or pending charges. I’m not loud during the day or at night. I am dating (I’m heterosexual), but won’t have overnight guests or visitors hanging out at the apartment. I don’t smoke or use drugs. I rarely drink alcohol. I don’t have any addictions. I’m not a slob. I take care of things inside apartment and lock doors. I am not a political or religious fanatic. Let me know when you’ll be available for me to see your place." Is there anything else a person renting would need to know unfront about a potential roommate? Edited May 26, 2013 by Col1
Pyro Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 It isn't necessary to mention that you are a heterosexual. Whatever you prefer is your business. To me it would seem odd how precise you are about things (mentioning the political and religious point for example) Other than that it looks good. 1

I put in the heterosexual part just to be upfront in case they have (unmentioned) preferences. Also, I included my political and religious statements to show that I won't be trying to prosthelytize or push an agenda. ETA: I think I will add that "I don't have any pets." Is there anything else I should add? Edited May 26, 2013 by Col1
Pyro Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 You covered it all. The only thing missing is your blood type.
tbf Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Are you setting up a dating profile or trying to find a roomie?
CarrieT Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Are you setting up a dating profile or trying to find a roomie? In San Francisco all that info is pretty standard -- even the difference between being hetero- or homosexual.
