This should be quite straightforward but I can't seem to think straight here.

Do a guy and a girl grow to talk more and start to share more purely as friends? I.e. becoming better friends as the friendship deepens? Or when people start to get closer, it usually borders on friendship-romance gray area?

I would love to know what guys would say about this. However, as a girl I can say that: If I find a guy cute I would love to befriend him. The chances of it developing into a romance depend on if I find him cute.

Lets put it this way: I like to look for a lover, companion and friend (I want the person that I am with to be all 3). I can never date a guy that I cannot imagine myself being friends with in real life. I have MANY male friends but only 1% are attractive which are also the ones that I'd love to date!!!!!

For me, it's this . . .

Or when people start to get closer, it usually borders on friendship-romance gray area?

I'm a natural introvert, so if I actually WANT to spend one-on-one time with a woman and feel comfortable enough to open up emotionally to some extent, then attraction feelings are going to accompany things. Plain and simple.

I consider true friendship to be a pretty close relationship. When I read things like this . . .

. . . I suspect that these "friendships" may not really be as close as what I would consider to be a friendship. Hence, the code that guys needs to learn when they are young: When a woman says that she "just wants to be friends", she could very well mean that she just wants to be friendly.
