jesique Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 My ex and I seperated in Jan of 2012. The state that we live in requires that we be seperated for a year before divorcing. I filed the paperwork and our divorce was final earlier this month. My ex is an alcoholic. That's part of why we seperated. He also gave up on his job, his life and me. He just quit caring. This last Jan, he told me he wanted to kill himself. I knew it was a cry for help but I also didn't know what to do or who to turn to. I gave him the hotline number for suicide prevention. In the middle of all of this...I'm having some health issues. I had to have a biopsy of a lump in my breast yesterday. Last night as I'm laying on the couch...I get a call from the local police department. They inform me that my ex has tried to kill himself. They are about to search his apartment because they think he may have been trying to/making a deadly chemical. I have informed his parents and tried to wash my hands of it. I'm not going to go visit him or contact him at all. I'm angry. I'm emotionally exhausted by everything that's going on. We're divorced. I feel like he is no longer my responsiblity. I tried to get him to get help...he always refused. He is a grown man. He had to take responsiblilty for his own actions. I wish it was just that easy. I loved this man at one point in my life. I hate to see him so far down like this...even if it is of his own making. I don't know.
Deerhunter Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 There is absolutely nothing you can do to help an addict. It has to be their choice and that's usually when they hit rock bottom. Maybe this was it and he will seek help. Alcoholics only think about themselves and where that next drink is coming from. That's it! They are the most selfcentered and selfish people. They just don't care.
Author jesique Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 Well...the good news is that I have washed my hands of it all and have not heard a peep in 3 days. I hope it continues to be that way.
