Barby Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I agree that it sounds like a man and if she had someone stalking her online before anyone can create a new SN she better be watching herself!

Fayebelle Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 She should definately give a heads up to campus security too. They are actually there on campus and have a lot more time to handle a specific case of harrassment then the police. They can keep an eye out when she's going between classes or the parking lot for suspicious activity. They may notice little things like someone hanging by a lot of her classes, car (if she has one) or just generally out of place. Also- talk to the owner and bartenders at the bar this person mentioned- see if anyone has been in asking question about either of you.
YellowLioness Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Good advice, faye! Actually, I'm jealous because I wished that I had come up with that advice. Anyway, I do agree. It is highly possible that someone with so much information is close to you all. Just bear in mind that you have recieved threats; I know your girlfriend doesn't want to rock the boat, but she shouldn't take chances with stalkers. By all means, do your own detective work, Faye had some great ideas, but don't forget about your local law inforcement. They handle cases like this all the time, and they will be able to give you good advice on how to handle the situation if nothing else. In all likleyhood, the stalker is just someone who is bored and likes to start trouble and scare you all, however, what if it's serious? I still think you all should call the cops.
faux Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 AOL can, and usually will, do very little for persons using a free AIM account. If you somehow manage to get the authorities involved in this (Most will probably just say "Ignore the person"), the police can at most get the email address used to originally sign up for the account. Sadly, this information is usually useless. If this person emails you, then you will already have that person's IP address, or at least the IP address the email was sent from. Just look in the headers for this information. Again, however, this is still not terribly useful, as the person may be using a few proxies daisy-chained together, and finding exact locality of an IP address on your own is never totally certain, as many of the databases for geographical assignment are outdated. If you feel more comfortable having the IP address, however, you will need to rely upon this person emailing you or other parties involved. If the same IP address comes up frequently, chancs are the person is not very smart, and you can use this to some advantage. For example: If you have a personal website and wish to use a .htaccess file to block any connections from that IP address or range. Another way the IP address may help, is if she is accessing a computer in a library, or in a college. You can do a simple WHOIS and get information as to which organization owns that IP range, and report the abuse to the proper person. As far as AIM goes, try blocking the person. If the individual still will not leave any of you alone, I recommend setting your AIM privacy settings to "Allow only users on Buddy List to contact me". After a month of being unable to track you down, the person will hopefully give up. Usually, people harassing others only continue to do so if there is an obvious reaction to his or her actions. If you do not wish to block the person, you could always simply minimize the IM window and not respond.

savethedrama4allama Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 I have come to learn in time that Faux is indeed the man. Well I've been looking for the stalker and they haven't signed in on my watch. I have a cute fake decoy picture all ready to go. One of my pictures wouldn't do
