I've been tempted to lie about my age, since I look about 5 yrs younger, and lowering my real age with a couple of years would have put me in my late thirties, more options:p, but decided it'll backfire. Better to be honest and who likes you will like you, who doesn't, who cares? It's gonna be others. But if you lie, you might mess up something that could have been working out.

Do you think that a couple of years would have made a difference? From your initial thinking, that is? I'm 44 and date from 35(37)- 50. Would a couple of years made a difference? Oh, glad you changed your mind...;)

Sorry, sabotaging the thread.

OP, I agree with RedRobin, you may be missing out on a great guy b/c of a couple of inches.

I understand. It sucks to be honest. I would think a women would care more about looks and chemistry then how long our legs are lol, but that is not the case for some women.

Well, I'd like to think that men aren't so hung up on age either, but they are. One of the reasons I don't date online is because so many of the men there can't fathom dating a woman who is even one year older...

or *gasp* even their own age... or if they do... that they are just good for FWB or f*ckbuddies.

... and since I don't plan on pushing some guy's wheelchair around while I'm still in my prime... I'm not dating older men either.

I'm similar age as you I think and I know there are more options if your age doesn't begin with '4' as a woman. On the other hand, I tend to get on with men who are a bit different and who have their own value system and I think I attract those if I'm honest.

Obviously I don't look at men's profiles when OLD, but really? I can't understand that myself.

I'm glad that lots of women like tall guys. More options for me :p

Ditto.

... and I'm also really glad that lots of women of all ages have let themselves go physically.

Too bad that lots of men have too, but oh well.

Yeah, this is what sucks about being in your 40s, most of my peers look terrible. I'd be happy to date men my age, I'm not ageist but they don't look after themselves.

I'm a recent college graduate and I was finding a hard time meeting guys so I decided to sign up for a dating site.

A guy contacted me and he seemed fairly bright and verbose. We chatted for a while and decided to meet up for some coffee. On his profile he listed himself as 5'9" but when we eventually met up, it turned out he was closer to 5 7-8. We were nearly eye level!

I kept my cool and sat through the rest of our meeting. I didn't mention anything.

I found this to be pretty off putting. It's not just the fact that he's shorter. It's also the dishonesty and the insecurity. I think someone who readily lies about their height might also lie about more important things.

I'm wondering if I overreacted or if this sort of thing is common on dating sites? Where can I meet single guys irl now that I'm finished with my education?

You sound... well... like an idiot.

Oh, hell no! I am in better shape than I was in my 20/30s! I work out 4-5x/week, lift, run, sheesh....no way I'm letting myself go. :D

But, yeah, many in the 40s are letting themselves go....

Same here but it's not typical unfortunately

I bet you'd react the same way if a girl was a bit rounder than her profile or her pictures suggested.

I'd be upset too. Most women want a man who's at least a few inches taller. It's not like you're 5'5" with a 6' minimum like some women. You're going to have to get used to it if you stay online just as I've gotten used to average=a few extra pounds and a few extra pounds=BBW.

LOL!

Women pushing 40 regularly list 1yr older & at least 5yrs younger on OLD.

Why is it people seem to think their gender is the more truthful or less picky when it comes to OLD.

News Flash. Everyone lies about something on OLD & 95% of the people don't even really want a relationship or they are just dumb because the fact that their profile is permanent fixture on OLD sites means they are either overly picky or just there to get laid. (both men & women).

I've hidden my profiles again. I can only handle it for so long. LOL!

I hear ya brother.

I just deactivated my OLD accounts.

Got tired of meeting women in their early 40's using pics from their late 30's. :)

Free summer concert season is almost upon us. Time to drop that last 5lbs.

NEWS FLASH: NOT EVERYONE lies about something on OLD! Man, the cynicism goes to the level of absurdity for some people on LS!

I'm done with OLD. Said this before but each time I set up an account it was up for shorter and shorter amount of time. I'm tired of shifting through the BS and it doesn't work for my attraction style anyway. I can't relate to photos and a wall of text. Every person I know who has tried OLD has had an incredible amount of first dates. I'm not cut out for that so if that means not getting laid for a while then so be it.

It's not about the deliberate lies. the thing is people perceive themselves differently from others. I'm sure a lot of the time they completely believe what they post in their profiles, however their reality is different from mine. I'm not saying it's better or worse but different.

EXACTLY. Men REALLY have no business telling women to not care about height. They have more discrimination rules in place that women do.

Firstly, this OLD. Second ALL guys lie about their height online and in real life. I stand at 5'10" and I had someone tell me they were that height as well when they are clearly shorter than me multiple times. And I don't wear heels to make them feel even smaller either. Height to a man is what big boobs are to women.

I don't lie about my height. If a women doesn't want me because of my height then it's her loss.

I dont condone lying and dont do it myself but being a short man old is almost like having leprosy so you try to get your foot in he door hoping someone who may overlook you will give you a shot.

What a terrible person.

I've gone out with guys who are 5'7" or 5'8" online. It wasn't their height that bothered me, it was their insecurity.

Short dudes can be huge assh0les. One dude kept asking me to feel his muscles, and was cocky as all get out. This was our first meet. It's called the Napoleon complex for a reason.

Now this isn't a blanket statement about all short dudes. But come on, just own it. I used to crush on this guy who couldn't have been more than 5'4" but he made me laugh like you wouldn't believe. So much hotter than a tall dude with a boring personality.

Women are most attracted to how you make them feel when they're around you.

and tall men can be huge aholes as well, why do short guys get psychoanalyzed for certain behavior? maybe a short guy is an ahole because well some people are just aholes not because hes short.

A tall guy can be a prick and a women wont say wow all tall men are jerks im gonna stop dating them, seems the napoleonic thing is a convenient excuse to not date guys with physical traits women dont like.

With all due respect, I said this wasn't a blanket statement about all short dudes.

But you don't see tall dudes on LS complaining about how women are shallow, and becoming bitter about it.
