Girl called me "beautiful", what is the next move

Recommended Posts

You don't like the fact people are telling you what you don't want to hear. We're just giving you an analysis based on the facts given.

You seem to be high on thinking logically, and incapable of thinking emotionally. The girl was into you.

It's sad really. There's a few other posters on here who come on here and whine, er excuse me, ask for advice, but then when we try to steer them the right way they resist.

This was the most severe example in a while though. You could give these Lovable Losers on here a winning lottery ticket and they wouldn't cash it.

Anyway OP as you were. With your winning attitude I'm sure you will go far.

I don't believe you, any of you. You weren't there, you don't see the daily interactions I go through, you don't know what I do to get to where I am. It was another case of me, again, thinking a girl was interested. Whatever. She has hordes of male friends who are more aesthetic and charismatic than I and to think that she was possibly into me was completely foolish and asinine. Even if I did somehow get with her, I doubt I would maintain her interest for long.

Anyway, yes, I will go far. In two years time I will be graduating from one of the best schools in the world. So yes, I win.

Now, this thread really needs to be locked.

A friend of mine graduated from Harvard Law School in 2004. She's still single in 2013. She wants a man, badly.

Even if you graduate from Harvard, you're still going to want a woman. Harvard can't hold you at night, nor can Harvard have sex with you.

Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you're right!

If you didn't think we were capable of answering your inquiry, why did you ask?

You've got some emotional problems, man. Don't be so analytical and hard on yourself.

Wow Pompeii. You sound a bit like me only I'm a 20 yr old girl with zilch experience in dating haha!

Let me clue you in on something. All the posters here are right. I'm in a sitch that is similar to yours where the guy is interested and being obvious about it, only I'm hoping to wait a bit and see if he makes the first move before I cave and make the first move myself.

That girl is indeed interested. Interest, my friend, is very attractive. Those hordes of male friends she could have friend zoned, or maybe they aren't attracted to her. You only live once. Will you be able to walk away and not care that you didn't take a chance with a girl you liked? The only way you could know if she feels the same is if you walk over there and talk to her. And if she says no, what's the worst that can happen? You won't explode, trust me.

I highly doubt she thinks you are asinine. She thinks you're indifferent or disinterested. That's what I would think if I were in her sitch.

And stop with the academic success nonsense. I for one, am one of the top students in my faculty, which is chemistry, and I plan on doing my masters and phd at an ivy school. And with all the academic success I have achieved, I am still able to maintain a social life and an interest in men. And I'd be able to fit a boyfriend in if it comes to that. Just because you want academic success, it doesn't mean everything else can go to $hit.

Are you seriously comparing me to a woman? 9 or so years my senior? Get real.

The point is, she's been wanting a man for all these years, even when she was your same age. She's had involvements, though. She's very attractive and has had lots of involvements. She just hasn't gotten a long-term relationship in all these years.

The point is, her Harvard degree, even when she was your age, doesn't bring her all the happiness she needs. It won't for you either.

My prediction last week...

The irony is that this will be a self fulfilling prophecy. If it hasn't, he will futz around a while longer and then she'll FZ him. Then he'll come back here and report she was not ever interested and was just being nice.

Frankly if you read these message boards long enough, you start to think it's a miracle the human race hasn't become extinct because it's the only species where the female gender has no interest in reproducing...

The outcome...

Nope. It's over, didn't call her. School is over for the summer, so there is no point. She only saw me as a friend. If she was so willing to get with me, then I don't see why she didn't contact *me*. She has my Facebook. If a girl really wants a guy, she will go out of her way to make sure she gets him. She only sees me as a friend and the "you're beautiful" comment was nothing more than empty semi-drunk banter I'm sure she'll be getting her rocks off over the summer with some ex-boyfriend or some new FWB guy.

Sigh...

I'm gonna be the harsh reality guy & say it right now so you'll have at least had a warning down the line when you graduate and get your splendid career/finances going...

It won't fully satisfy you. Degree, great job, financial success- it'll just become the norm and there will be times you feel like they barely mean sh*t. I thought similarly to you several years back. Always looked to the future thinking, "ok, once I've finished school, have my **** together in a cool job, am making money- then I'll be set". Well, I did it. I got my degree, have a badass job doing creative work many people have to intern for years to have the opportunity to do; everything's in place theoretically. Even my personal artistic endeavors are starting to go places in a very cool, global way. Don't get me wrong- I derive a lot of satisfaction from these accomplishments and my general ability to live comfortably. It's all awesome and I'm grateful. But it hasn't cured my restlessness or brought me contentment.

And yes, it would also be unhealthy to make having a girlfriend your "I'll be happy when _______". Plus that sh*t won't put a roof over your head. But the thing is, you only have the present. Always. And the idea that you're banking on this completely intangible, abstract future you imagine for yourself- to the point that you're using it as an excuse to not confront your fear of women- is not smart. You can only hide from the truth for so long. Take it from me man, I've got woman issues myself.
