Do men not understand that women are very emotional?

Its an age / maturity issue. My generation sucks for maturity.

 

That is the case for both men and women. My neighbors daughter is away at college and she said it sometimes feels like she is surrounded by brainless zombies.

I've been told by multiple marital counselors that women are indeed more emotional and more driven by their emotions than men, and that men are driven by logic. It might be a social thing. I don't honestly know if that's true or not, and I don't really care. Whether it's men or women, people who use "I'm emotional" as an excuse for bad behavior is one of my serious pet peeves.

 

I've dealt with my share of emotional (or irrational) women. I've learned that anything said by a partner in moments of heightened emotion needs to be taken with a truckload of salt. I have learned that I will not have a discussion with a very emotional person, as they are often not thinking clearly and it is usually not very productive.

 

And I have learned to adapt. I will be emotionally sensitive and nurturing, as long as my partner communicates effectively. I've dated several women who are just awful at communication, and as a result, the relationship eventually suffers, because they get emotional and insecure over something they never legitimately communicated in the first place. I suspect plenty of men and women have this issue, though.

From what I've seen of women, lack of or poor communication is usually what makes them seem "crazy". They may be very emotional and be unable or unwilling to articulate their emotions. I've asked my bf if he ever finds me emotionally erratic and he said no because I am usually able to explain why I feel the way I feel about things and it always makes sense when I explain it. But not everybody can or will explain why they feel the way they feel. They assume the other person should know or would have the same reaction, or even worse they don't know why they feel the way they feel and are just kind of flailing trying to find an answer. I think that's the case with a lot of emotionally erratic people.

 

I took it upon myself to work on regulating my emotions and seek outlets for my emotional energy with people who can understand and relate. I think anyone who reacts emotionally should do the same, because really no one can truly know their emotional needs besides them.

 

My boyfriend is consistent and I have to say the consistency has been key. I guess I 'm the conventional ocean most of the time and he is the shore. I can count on him to have generally the same temperament all the time and that does help even me out, especially when I'm feeling emotionally overwhelmed. In my perspective, it's then my responsibility to get my emotional needs sorted out and communicate them to him if I need him to do something for me.

 

Really I think that's all a less emotional person can do for an emotional person., is be the shore in rough times. I liked xxoo's comment that said "a partner has to wait their turn for their emotional breakdown." I think that's very true. Both partners men and omen can be emotional people, but when things get hectic someone has to be the shore, even if the roles switch from time to time I think that dynamic really leads to long-term stability.

Men are extremely emotional as well. It's just not socially acceptable for us to express that emotion out in the open unless its in certain situations
